Looks like my steam powered HTC smartphone has decided to misbehave. Keeps stalling / freezing and saying the phone and HTC Sense are not responding. Have had to remove the battery and restart umpteen times today. There's no obvious advice on what to do next so I may need to think about replacing it.
Therefore any recommendations for an Android Smartphone which is *not* expensive (ideally no more than £150)?
I only use PAYG so monthly contract phones are a complete no no given my very low phone usage. I'm not into the great "must have the very latest gizmo laden super fast most sensationally show off to the world smartphone" game so no point in recommending the latest £700 phone. No point in recommending the Apple I-Phone either. I tend to buy unlocked phones even though I'm on Virgin Mobile.

As a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge owner for a few months now, I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone thinking of getting it. I suspect that may be a little OTT for you; The Motorola Moto G is probably the best value handset out at the moment, so I recommend you have a good look at it. EDIT: never had a problem with my S6 Edge, miles better than an iPhone 6S in every way.

Sadly, you don't want an iPhone which are really good but I'd still suggest checking out used iPhone models as you can find some bargains. Not sure if there are cheaper Sony phones about but I've heard they are pretty good otherwise get another HTC.

My last Android smartphone before I caved and went back to the iFold was an LG/Google Nexus 5. I can't fault it in performance terms, and it is well specified in spite of being a couple of years old now. A secondhand 16GB model in good nick comes in at £160 at CeX locked to your network of choice - £175 unlocked. The camera is OK but not in the iPhone class. But in all well worth considering IMO, for what the phone actually offers it's hard to beat at the price - do have a look at some reviews to make up your own mind, obviously.

Could consider the Samsung Galaxy S5, although that's closer to or above the £200 mark. You may get them cheaper as we head towards Christmas. If you ever decide to go towards Apple there's the iPhone 5 which is around the same price as the S5. Again maybe best to wait till closer to Christmas if possible.

Argos reduced the price of the LG G3 for £199 recently! Not anymore. The LG G3 is probably the best affordable Smartphone you can get at the moment, and you won't be disappointed as it's pretty future-proof and rivals the majority of Smartphones out there. I know it's over your budget, but if you're willing to stretch to it you can still get one from CeX for around £200, this price reduces nearer to your desired budget depending on the condition and if it's locked to a network. Also have a browse through Ebay, the LG G3 is much more affordable online too

This basically describes me and phones Additionally, I tend to take an age to decide what phone to buy (or anything for that matter). But after some extensive online research, I could not find a better value priced, well rated phone than the Motorola Moto G (4G). It is below £150. I purchased it, but have not used it yet. I can give you an update of its early performance later this week.

I have spotted the Motorola option and will be interested to see how you get on with it. Thanks to everyone else who has responded - some good options there but will involve stretching my wallet open further than it likes to be opened. In the meantime I've reset my phone to see if that improves matters or not.

I'm not much on Android phones, but if you don't mind something older, you could consider a Samsung Galaxy S2. They can be had for around £50 now on eBay, which sounds like a good deal to me. The S2 looks decent spec wise, or at least better than my iPhone 3G S. The Galaxy S3 can be had for around £90 on eBay. The only thing I'd worry about is what version of Android it can be updated to. From what I've heard from friends in the past, the manufacturers of Android devices can be quite slow in releasing their specific OS images once that particular version of Android has been released by Google. At any rate, for your specific usage, I'd stick to something used. But remember that some deals are always too good to be true.

Currently I have an S6 and it's quite easily the best phone out there. Good for a bit of emergency bus photography in case an Enviro200 turns up on the 123 The S6 provides me with everything I require from a phone and much more. However you could buy a Samsung Galaxy S5 which are quite similar but slightly more easy on the wallet.

I am one month away from upgrading. I am going back to Iphone after two years with a HTC One. I am a fan of Android but its just not as slick as ios + with Android updates are when manufactures decide to issue them.

Sorry to hijack the tread - I want to upgrade this weekend. I am torn between the Iphone 6 and 6s!
I want to save a bit of money by going with the 6 but worried I am signing up to a year old phone on a two year contract but the savings are big over two years.
Is there much difference between the two?
Help!! : )

Sorry to hijack the tread - I want to upgrade this weekend. I am torn between the Iphone 6 and 6s! I want to save a bit of money by going with the 6 but worried I am signing up to a year old phone on a two year contract but the savings are big over two years. Is there much difference between the two? Help!! : ) From a technical standpoint, the two phones can be compared on GSMArena. The iPhone 6S has a faster processor, twice the working memory (More apps open at once), better back and front cameras, better graphics processor (for games), and has something called a Force Touch Display, which seems to help protect against damage to the screen (gimmick). The iPhone 6 has a bigger battery, but slightly poorer battery life overall (there's apparently an hour or so of difference, so no big loss), it supports more GSM and CDMA network frequencies, but that kind of stuff doesn't really matter unless you're some kind of globe trotter. Th 6 is slightly lighter than the 6S. 129G, opposed to 143G. The 6 also seems to have more smaller software features, such as an audio editor. Apart from those differences they seem to be pretty much the same phone. If you don't need to be on the bleeding edge of technology, and want to save some money, then go for the iPhone 6. If you're in it for the long haul so to speak (using your phone for another contract term or elsewhere), and you want to be one of the cool kids with a super fast phone, then go for the 6S. I'd pay the extra money for the 6S, personally. Because provided I was happy with it, I'd want to keep that phone for at least 5 years. When I got my 3G S on the used market, of course I had the option to go with the 3G. Even back in late 2010/early 2011 the iPhone 3G was slow, and quite restricted as a result. The 3G S however was still a competent performer compared to the iPhone 4, and I'm glad I spent the extra money. I can't imagine the iPhone 6 will fall into obsolescence that quickly. The iPhone 3G is an exception in that regard because it was rather underpowered when it was new. But these things are still worth keeping in mind.
