It won't be named Elizabeth Line officially until the Central London section opens to the public. Why did TfL name it TfL Rail originally? It was a temporary name for the Liverpool St- Shenfield and Paddington to Heathrow Airport lines

Haven't been on the TFL Rail for a while now I think they are all gone now. However the decision was not to use Elizabeth Line branding until the Central Core opens to passengers. This does mean that initially the Elizabeth Line will operate as three separate services and later two overlapping services, on a temporary basis. Elizabeth Line will operate initially as Paddington Crossrail - Abbey Wood; Paddington Main Line - Heathrow Airport/Reading; Liverpool Street Main Line - Shenfield. This could start as early as mid-February if the trial operations proceed successfully. Later in 2022 the service will become Reading/Heathrow Airport - Abbey Wood and Paddington Crossrail - Shenfield with some peak-hour Liverpool Street Main Line - Gidea Park extras. Full service is pencilled in for the May 2023 National Rail timetable change.

On the Wikipedia Crossrail page, it used to show the service pattern. This has since been removed. Does anyone know why.
Also the service pattern was for 24 tph in the central core, then 12 tph to Abbey Wood or Sheffield. Does anyone know if it is possible in the future to increase the frequency?

I would imagine that up to 30tph though the central core would be possible with enhanced signalling, the main constraint on capacity would be the junctions at Stepney Green (east of Whitechapel). The station boxes have been designed so the platforms can be lengthened to take ten-car trains in future (the 345s are 9-car).

I knew Crossrail was going to leave London, but I didn't think it would reach Yorkshire

It won't be named Elizabeth Line officially until the Central London section opens to the public. Why did TfL name it TfL Rail originally? It was when they took over the line, it could have been part of the Overground network, but as it was always to be temporary it got TfL Rail. It has gone on well past its sell by date and should have been Crossrail, but Elizabeth line was from Boris when he was mayor IIRC

So many times that there are signal failures etc On the Paddington - Heathrow section or some issue at Hayes & Harlington.

Ironically I left London (to return to my native Australia) back in early 2011 just as crossrail tunnelling was kicking off and in early 2022 I’m returning to London once more as Crossrail is due to start service through those tunnels. Never thought I would be back to see the start of service!
