Will the Elizabeth line keep it's platforms at Paddington and Liverpool Street when the Central core fully opens? Even though platforms are freed up at both stations, I would think the paths into the stations are at full capacity. So the ex platforms cannot be used to develop new services? With the peak only service at Liverpool Street, which will only utilise 1 platform, it will free up 2, so wonder if these will be built upon, with commercial development.

They probably won't be used for new services. Paddington will be used in case of closures/emergencies and I presume the same thing for Liverpool Street too

This should allow spare capacity available for a increase in services on the WAML as the junction at Bethnal Green prevents WAML services using the fast GEML tracks.

This should allow spare capacity available for a increase in services on the WAML as the junction at Bethnal Green prevents WAML services using the fast GEML tracks. The junction at Bethnal Green doesn't preclude WAML services using the GEML fast tracks, but a lack of capacity means that the WAML services are scheduled to be routed through the platforms at Bethnal Green. With the Elizabeth Line trains rerouted onto the Crossrail line, it should be possible to slew GEML fast services onto the local lines (possibly remodelling west of Stratford could allow high-speed crossovers to be put in), this would enable WAML services to use the current GEML main lines between Bethnal Green and Liverpool Street and leave the local lines free for London Overground services. It would also reduce a lot of conflicting moves north of Bethnal Green as only Chingford Line trains would need to cross over.

The big white elephant in the room is noone is holding their hand up and saying they will pay for it. Everyone expecting someone else to pay.

Logic would suggest that KCC dig deep and figure out how to pay for it. If they want it they have to fund it. The suggestion in the article that TfL/GLA would fund it is laughable.

Having looked at travel options, it looks like it could be feasible to ride CrossRail on the August Bank Holiday! I would combine it with up to 10 buses, including route B13 before it is lost by Arriva.
Admittedly I would probably get home too late to share my experience of it the same evening.
To maintain an even spread of London travels, Croydon would probably wait until early next year, depending on tenders and new buses due later in the year.

Big update: I have booked the August Bank Holiday night in London to ride CrossRail, but unusually on the Tuesday.
On a sombre note, I found out late last year that a friend I'd lost touch with after Christmas 2018 had died on August 28th in 2019. As a result I am suspending all travels and references to timetables, transport forums etc on the Anniversary, the Sunday.
A blessing at work is that, having booked Sunday-Tuesday off work, they kindly arranged for me to have a rest day on Wednesday! So I can have the night away on the Bank Holiday and ride CrossRail with plenty of buses on the Tuesday, then have a chill-out day back at home on Wednesday.
By way of a consolation for effectively sacrificing my preferred date for CrossRail - the Bank Holiday itself - buses will of course be more frequent, especially that morning.
