As to the tournament overall I think it’s been one of the best. I’ve been watching World Cups since 1990 and this one has probably been my favourite. All the worries over Russia hosting it failed to come to pass and its been a fabulous month of football. Looking forward, this might be a high point. I can’t see Qatar hosting a better World Cup (it’ll be at the wrong time of year for a start!) and after that it goes to 48 teams which is far too many for a summer tournament. It’s a sad fact that we might just have seen the best World Cup we will ever see

Considering that the 'Nations league' nonsense is starting, and the Euros will be everywhere (and oddly Wembley has the semis/final),I might add this may be the best international tournament we may have for some time. The 48 team World Cup ruins the symmetry, we will probably have best 3rd place team nonsense/confusion. My biggest issues is the qualifying, 48 teams means that qualifying is redundant as almost everyone will qualify, and that will be two years of pointless internationals (Imagine somewhere like South America, where they have 5 qualify out of 9, they will probably have an extra place or two meaning that you will have two years of qualifying just to knock out two teams from South America). I would imagine Mexico, US and Canada get in as hosts, meaning that the rest of the North America and Carribean qualifying will be pointless battle of maybe 3 nations to get two spots......

Anyway.. MONEY MONEY MONEEEYYYY.
