A slightly disappointing first half between Russia and Egypt, not much seemed to happen. Hopefully the second half turns out to be far more interesting otherwise we'll be seeing our first 0-0 of the tournament

Still no 0-0. That's good

Is it the first time there hasn't been a 0-0 in the opening round of group stage in the history? Certainly had the most number of penalties already. Thanks VAR ...

And another VAR penalty. I'm glad though that's it's working correctly here

I’m disappointed for Salah and really feel for him - I was looking forward to seeing him light up the World Cup but he clearly looks very unfit. I’m not particularly pleased Russia are through and they’ve played two very poor teams in all fairness, hopefully Uruguay bring them back down to earth.

Also just one own goal away to break the record for the most own goals from a one World Cup tournament and that was 6 own goals in France 1998.

I thought the Russia v Egypt game was drab in the first half but a lot better in the second half and Russia looked quite good and have almost certainly qualified for the knockout stages, which I think is good for me tournament, and Egypt are almost certainly going out, both will be confirmed if Uruguay beat Saudi Arabia tomorrow.
The Poland v Senegal game was disappointing and whilst I thought Senegal deserved to win their second goal was a bit bizarre.

Ronaldo does it again but a poor game and Morocco can count themselves very unfortunate!

Great to see Ronaldo score again and whilst not having a great game, he justifies being the best in the world currently by grabbing the all important goal. Morocco rarely tested Portugal's goal bar one great save from the newly signed Wolves keeper Rui Patricio although Portugal's defence seemed like they wanted to help Morocco out as much as possible.
A trend I've noticed is the African teams bar Senegal seem to be able to knock the ball around nicely but lack any cutting edge - obviously, Egypt would of been better if they had a fully fit Mo Salah but otherwise, they all have struggled massively to create meaningful chances.

Iran-spain I can't see remaining 0-0 for 90mins. The Iranian defending has been good and Spanish chances have been poor, but the quality is overwhelming.

Spain should have scored a second as well but Iran seem to have adopted a new technique of lying on the floor and huddling around the ball.

Been an intriguing match. The two good Iran chances were exciting.
