“I’ve been on the C2 bus a number of times from Swain’s Lane up to Regent’s Park. What I really like about it are the great big windows with the great view, which the 88 doesn’t have.” Maybe I'm just being stupid, but what is he on about? The 88 uses the old C2 routeing betwen Great Portland Street and Parliament Hill Fields and uses the same buses. Seemed a bizzare comment when I was reading the article
I assume the article and interviews were drafted *before* the change. Users of the C2 would have seen NB4Ls on the 88 in Camden hence their comment about the smaller upper deck windows. They would not have had a clue that a vehicle type change was needed on route 88 to allow it to be extended. Cut them a bit of slack - they're not detail obsessed geeks taking part on a bus forum.

The C2 lives on according to bus stops between Oxford Circus and Great Portland Street. The negative impact will soon be felt when the 88 gets disrupted due to demos in the Parliament Square and Whitehall areas. I presume the 88 will run a split service which will be Piccadilly Circus-PHF and Vauxhall-Clapham Common. I did the 88 end to end on New Year's Eve when it was diverted via the Strand, Waterloo Bridge, York Road, County Hall, Lambeth Palace Road and Lambeth Bridge. It was unbearably slow between Trafalgar Square and Lambeth Palace and the whole route took around 90-100 minutes end to end. God knows how long it would take with the PHF extension. My TFL weekend closures email informs me there is a demo tommorow so check LVF to see the service go to pot There’s demos most weekends now until heaven knows because of Brexit. Watch out for more disruption w.c 15th April. Climate protesters week of action. Lots of road blocks being planned.

Early days but it seems to be running ok so far.

I didn't realise the C3 goes to Westminster and that the 88's operated by Metroline

Irrelevant to the public, as it is to the argument for axeing the C2. What could, maybe should, have been mentioned somewhere in the report is that taking away the extension to Victoria destroyed a lot of the value of the route together with a lot of patronage, including at offpeak times. A complete TfL own goal! Not really, the route returned to it's original format. Back then heavy loadings necessitated double deckers but times change and the demand isn't there anymore. Who knows what the demand might be? There was obviously no DEMAND for the 22 to be diverted to Oxford Circus, presumably, as TfL could hardly wait more than a few weeks from it happening to propose that, instead, it should revert to ite previous Piccadilly Circus terminus. 66% opposed the c2/88 'consultation': how many if the C2 had still gone to Victoria? Oh, sorry, I forgot that 52% is the magic figure where there must be no query as to what they meant.

Oh, sorry, I forgot that 52% is the magic figure where there must be no query as to what they meant. We know that the consultation is nothing more than a cosmetic exercise, it's not a referendum. Reality is that there is insufficient demand for two routes between Oxford Circus and Camden Town and this is actually quite a sensible way round it, this was even suggested on here before TfL came up with the idea. Of course if passengers were offered a x8 minute service on the 88 or a x20 minute service on the C2 they might have given a different answer.

Split services went out long ago, it's PHF to Clapham Common. Early days but it seems to be running ok so far. The 24 runs a split service when there are demos Yes it might be necessary to make such arrangements in the event of disruption but last Friday when Parliament Square was closed the 88 was diverted via Victoria and the 38 route to Piccadilly Circus.

Oh, I see. Diverting the route via Victoria seems far more sensible than diverting it via Waterloo plus 88 users on Great Smith Street aren't punished for the closure of Parliament Square

To be fair, the person is unlikely to be an enthusiast and was probably unaware that the 88 was to convert to Enviro 400's

Obviously didn’t do too much research as they say the 88 is run by Metroline It could be won by Metroline (HT) next time, garage space permitting. Alternatively, if what was route C2 really was quiet, route 88 could be split upon retender, with route 88 staying with GA but curtailed at Oxford Circus with route C2 returning awarded to Metroline (HT) using BELs.

From a nostalgic point of view, it’s nice the have the former 3/53 link revived
