11 . Never enjoyable . Always slow be it traffic or just tedious running time, 131. Another tedious route with the low humming Volvos which seem to help me sleep. 295. Always packed, but nice buses and well run. 395. Just a terrible route. You reach Northolt in either direction and have to endure another tour of narrow soulless roads. H20. Alright if you like Tesco’s and housing estates. H28. Alright if you like Tesco’s and the endless drab housing of Hounslow.

I think most will agree about the 11 very slow route that should have been split in two imo.

I thought the H20 was an interesting little route, it is mostly housing yes but I thought there was something intriguing about it. Helped I think by an incredibly and chatty driver I had on the route when I did it, he was telling me about its history and the buses that used to run on it.

131 ...... a route that does not deserve a place in this thread ........ Was waiting to see what you thought about this 😁 😁😁😁😁😁 the last thing I was expecting to see when I opened the thread was an insult towards my beloved route 😂😂 but hey ho not everything’s for everyone lol. To be fair there was actually a funny story that I haven’t yet shared, which is that one time I was on the 131 we all got turfed off at Rayners Park because a passenger (a child I think) had done a ‘Number 2’ on a seat 🤮🤮🤮 perhaps the poster was on that bus too 😂 I think that would be enough to make anyone avoid the route after that encounter looool

I like routes like the H20 that run through estates and small knook and cranny type places, find them a lot more interesting than something like the 32, 109, etc. As for the 131, it's neither a like or dislike though I slightly prefer the 57 more than it despite the fact both get bogged down in traffic through Colliers Wood. The 57's routing via Coombe Lane is preferably better IMO and it links into Streatham which is handy for myself to connect to Brixton bound buses.

I agree with you, I actually don't mind routes that travel around the houses and find them much more interesting than dead straight routes. My favourite route in London would have to be the 371 I know this isn't a proper round the houses route but still.

Totally get your sentiments about the 57 obviously knowing the area you’re from and how it’s more useful for you, completely understandable. I very very rarely use the 131 past Wimbledon up to TB, all about the Kingston end for me which is where I have friends and family live. I’ve just always found the 57 to be pretty unreliable being a very long and difficult route to run and I hate it’s 09-reg Es, very heavily loaded route as well which also bogs it down for me

I was thinking "proper" around the houses routes are like the K1 and G1. Basically ones that have a hail and ride section.

I like the K1 and the 371. 371 because of Richmond Hill and Richmond Park which it effectively skirts apart from the trip onto the Ham peninsula. K1 it has a few roads to itself which used to be the domain of the 71 and 152.

Routes I think you should avoid:
143 - School and peak hours are nightmares. Rammed between 3-4pm between Archway and Hendon. Honestly not a nice route in the peaks.
C11 - Sluggish and very indirect, out of peak hours take a 143/210 if you want to get between Archway and Brent Cross. But it does serve good places like West Hampstead.
Now, I have a tip for any of y'all who need to travel between East Finchley and Brent Cross.
Unless there is horrendous traffic if you are on a 143 take it to East Finchley Cemetery then get a 232. So convenient as it takes about 15 minutes compared to the 143 taking up to 25/30.
If you are on a 102, take it to Henlys Corner and change for a 232. The 102 is really slow around the Golders Green - Mapledown Section heading through North Cricklewood and Pennine Drive.
Some other routes I would try to avoid are any routes that you know get densely packed during school ending times. The likelihood is you'll be bombarded with loud children.

I also avoid the 251, especially in the peaks. (Mill Hill - eastbound am and vice versa in my case). Most of the time it is impossible to get on. If you can it is totally rammed, hot, sweaty and unpleasant. Sounds just like the 490 120 between Southall and Hounslow. Unfortunately no alternative except H32 which goes a completely different longer way and is of no use to me.as I've said many times before 120 is always full and standing
