I didn't really know where to put this since it's non TFL, but it involves Orpington. But Go Coach's 431 route that runs from Orpington to Sevenoaks is set to be renumbered as the 3 from January. This comes after the 401 from Westerham to Sevenoaks and the 421 from Swanley to Sevenoaks were renumbered as the 1 and 2 a few weeks ago.

Tbh, I just don't get it why change it to small number when nothing wrong with 401,421,431!!!
So sad as Arriva no longer run route 402 to Bromley anyway in the past.

The issue with the old 402 route was the heavy traffic between Green Street Green and Bromley. The route could have remained viable if they had cut the Bromley connection by using the current 431 routing into Orpington.

Or simply restructure the route’s two services by running a Bromley to Sevenoaks service with it timed to meet the current Dunton Green to Tunbridge Wells service. That way, the Bromley service is shorter end to end and should make it more reliable whilst providing a connection to services beyond Sevenoaks.

I've just realised, this means there will be two different 3's at both ends of the 358 in both Crystal Palace and Orpington now. Will that not confuse someone?

Kentish Bus renumbered the 477 and 480, among others, but if it was designed to bring more passengers to the routes it failed miserably as a strategy and they quite soon reverted. Go Coach seem a sensible firm, in it for the long term (or as long as possible in such a generally well-heeled area) so I suppose they have a reason, but I fail to see it as a good one.

I don’t understand about R, H routes etc..on my understanding
R - 68, 70 represents Richmond H - Hounslow H - Harrow R - 2 etc ? (What does this mean) why R should it be O to represent Orpington or am I getting it completely wrong?

R stands for Roundabout which is the name the network was given years ago, O would seem more logical.
