I was wondering if the 287 could become 24 hour or even the 238‘s could be cut in favour of a new night route between Stratford and Rainham. It would give Rainham, Beam Park and Dagenham a night route to Barking, and it would provide Beam Park’s development with two night routes.

Currently, it is impossible to travel to/from Bexleyheath and Abbey Wood/Woolwich (and surrounding areas) between 1am and 5am. Unless you are willing to pay for a taxi or have the time to use the N1/53 up to Deptford/Blackheath and change for a bus to Bexleyheath.
I would like to see either the 301, 401 or 229 become a 24hr route/have a night counterpart. 301 would be the most logical choice. If Crossrail were to operate for 24hrs, this night link would definitely be needed.

Are you proposing to extend to Ruislip then back down to Hounslow? Or are you proposing a bifurcation at Yeading with Ruislip and Hounslow branches? Both route proposals appears to cut the route from Northolt station if you want to run the route up West End Road. I would rather see the N7 extended from Northolt station via Eastcote Lane to Field End Road then 114 to Ruislip and introduce a 24hr 120 between Northolt and Hounslow

N311
A weekend only night service between Greenford Bus Depot and Aldwych.
Via:
Greenford Road, Ruislip Road East, route E3 to Turnham Green Station and route N11 to Aldwych.
Purpose: To assist the N11 in the weekends. Link Greenford and Hanwell with Piccadilly Line and Central London.

In South East London, there are plenty of night routes that run east to west and vice versus. However not much going north to sought and again vice versus, so always thought the 51 would make for good all night running.

I think 51 came close to becoming 24h around 2006/7 with the aim it would replace part of the N21 that instead would take the direct routing to Foots Cray via the 321 and cut the N47 back to Perry Hall Road.

However not much going north to sought and again vice versus, so always thought the 51 would make for good all night running. Orbital routes such as the 51 are ideal candidates to have a night service. They normally have a late finish time and early start time, and distinctly start service at the same time all days of the week; including Sundays. The general argument against is you can't give a night service to every area or route; and that's right to a degree but some suburban areas like Kingston are lit up like a Christmas tree! I hope if bus mileage does increase in the next financial year (unlikely, I know) then hopefully some of that should be spared on night buses. A natural progression of some weekend night routes becoming 24/7 should be first and foremost. Routes like the 123, 145 and 154 are prime pickings as they cover parts of the network currently unavailable by night buses and poll strong patronage figures for their night journeys. Oh would you look at that, they're all orbital routes too!

I really think both the 123 and 145 really should be 24/7, the 145 is the only night service anywhere near the southern part of Dagenham Heathway with the other alternative being the 365 which terminates halfway to Rainham. Something that I'm not sure would work but might be worth mentioning on here is withdrawing the N86, extending the N25 to Romford Station and then making the 174 24 hour to give Dagenham Heathway the night service it's needed for a really long time.

Similar to how the 281 replaced part of the N77(87) and N22 by making the night network follow the most popular day links with the 65 maintaining a kingston to Richmond night link.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a post on this thread of me not talking about turning the 123 and 145 24/7! TfL's choosing criteria for this subject seems bizzare to me when on the southern tip of the 174, there's a big Tesco distribution warehouse employing hundreds of people on shift patterns who would find the service useful should there be a night service. Despite what happens with the 365, the 174 going 24/7 is still the dream. Unfortunately I don't think it's a good use of resources at present to extend the N25 with its generous frequencies to Romford. I can say when the N86 was every 15 minutes over the weekends, only the Stratford end saw capacity maybe half utilized with it being very superfluous past Ilford. Should Upminster not be lucky with nighttime coverage, everyone's in congruent agreement of sending the N86 there so the 174 can have its night service in Harold Hill without there being a waste of resources. If there is any silly reason the N86 can't go to Upminster, I believe it should be extended west from Stratford to Liverpool Street (via the N25 to Aldgate) to stabilise journey patterns and offer a proper night route alternative to TfL Rail out of Liverpool Street.

Still guts me the 75 is no longer 24hr, especially as it was just 5 or 6 journeys each way.

Still guts me the 75 is no longer 24hr, especially as it was just 5 or 6 journeys each way. It even served East Croydon at night* to try lap up punters from the 24hr Thameslink service. Hopefully if and when the DLR gets a night service, it will warrant at least a weekend 24- hour service from the 75. *can't remember if it was both ways but the 75N defo served East Croydon in the Lewisham direction.
