Doing things properly like with face coverings they should have done it from the start and not halfway through a pandemic. I wouldn't put it past them if they used this crisis as an excuse to cut jobs. From the start? What when there was a worldwide shortage of PPE? Inevitably a lot of jobs will be lost, nobody needs to look for an excuse. If your going to start that debate up again, at least start by not telling lies about a shortage of PPE at the very beginning - we ended up with a shortage because we acted too late but also because had we not had 10 years of austerity, we would of had a coherent plan in place including the supply of PPE because all this groundwork was done during the 00’s until Cameron started the cuts rolling.

On a side not its disappointing to see lots more passengers on normal buses not using masks. I really think an official government video needs to be released regarding masks and how to wear them (quite unbelievable, but then this is the British public we are talking about). I am forever seeing inconsiderate fools who wear the mask inside out or upside down (people don't seem to understand that the metal strip is to bend it around your nose), or with the mask below your nose (do people not understand what comes out of their noses too???) or just under their chin like some sort of low budget necklace. I also think it needs to be made clear that people wear masks for the safety of others and that wearing a mask doesn't actually protect yourself. If people who go around without masks come to realise that they're actually just affecting others and not themselves, I think this could considerably reduce the numbers of those not wearing them when in public. I don’t think such a video will convince those who happen to be more skeptical of the effectiveness of masks. 🙊

Completely agree. I'm surprised that the face mask rule hasn't been drilled into people by now as when I was on the R2 earlier, there was one person who boarded without wearing a face covering throughout the entire journey. I'm surprised the driver let them on without intervention or playing the face covering iBus announcement which I've noticed some drivers do when they see a passenger board without one. However, whilst passing through Kings Cross Station last week to get to work, I have noticed that the NR announcement for passengers to wear a face covering has changed from "You must wear a face covering at all times" to "Please wear a face covering on stations and on public transport". I worry that some people would take this the wrong way and think that wearing a face mask is now optional when this is clearly not the case yet. I'm still very skeptical about the effectiveness of masks however, I did wear mine on every bus I was on today merely because I know if I didn't, Mr. £1000 fine would be boarding at some point knowing my luck. After today, my confidence about using buses has risen significantly

If it hasn't already been mentioned, extra buses for school students would be identified by a V-prefix to the route number [via LOTs]

I shouldn't imagine they would. Will probably just be a slipboard quite possibly, I wouldn't know. We'll see what happens. I'm also unsure of what routes they're planning on putting these extras on.

Yes an official video about face coverings would be useful, the vast majority of people are complying and it's becoming socially unacceptable not to wear a face covering when required and most staffed railway stations seem to have a supply of them so there really is no excuse. If people really don't want to wear one they should stay off public transport and out of shops.

Ha I went to Westfield Stratford yesterday and was amazed how many people were not wearing masks. Then there is the ones walking around with them on the chin like its a new fashion item. No offence to younger members but the worst culprits seem to be teens and 20 somethings.

Mind you, compliance seemed a lot higher last month.

Multiple places across London are seeing low traffic neighbourhoods installed and as quickly as they are implemented, so are the petitions and criticisms. All of Lambeth's current active schemes have been criticised by local groups and even one scheme was criticised by the fire bigrade whilst I've signed the petition regarding my local one. I also watched a news report on ITV regarding one particular scheme in Enfield next to the A406 which has simply pushed the problem to surrounding roads as mentioned by locals. Lambeth have wasted £4m on clogging up main roads including both of the southern approaches to Brixton and the eastern approach by reducing the number of roads and thoroughfares cars can take rather than actually reducing the amount of cars on the roads - this £4m could of been better spent elsewhere like finishing off their LED street light programme or resurfacing one or two roads. Until congestion is significantly reduced, there is no hope for buses just as much as there is no hope for those who want cycling to prosper greatly - I've a vision for Brixton that could be great but it cannot happen until car usage plummets significantly. Exactly the same in Greenwich. People were shocked to wake up one day to find access to their roads restricted. Apparently consultations in the borough will take place at the end of the trial period.

Seen it reported elsewhere that 200 extra buses will be needed for extra school buses in September. Also mentioned that the relevant buses will have a V-prefix to the route number, those buses restricted to school pupil use only.
