Lawyers have said that employers have no choice but to count anyone off as an authorised absence due to either contracting the illness, having to care for someone like a child for example or even if they’ve had to self isolate as a precaution. This includes receiving sick pay so any company who doesn’t comply is going to have a bruising time from their workers with tribunals. Drivers will probably return to work with a disciplinary lol. I cant see them shutting down the network simply due to money. Go Ahead are now providing big bottles of hand sanitizer in the main offices where drivers sign on, i have also read an email today stating drivers will be given small personal bottles tomorrow and should they run out they can refill them from the big bottle. They have no choice though - if it gets as bad as Italy, China, Iran, etc. and it's looking likely it could very well do so, the public transport network will at least have to run on a very reduced service, if not entirely suspended. Sending workers home limits the spread of infection which gives companies more staff to ultilise - in football, when a player has a virus of some sort, they generally send them home so as not to affect the whole squad and this is the same sort of thing in essence

So much fear mongering and hysteria for basically Swine Flu 2.0. Wash hands, practice good hygiene, call in sick, protect the elderly and immuno-compromised who are actually at major risk etc etc. We will get through this.

Some of is actually justified TBF - what isn't is people panic buying a range of things outside of hand sanitiser like food & those bleeding masks which do not protect you at all.

Seems we have a couple of doctors on here. I'm not sure I'd be quite so dismissive about it and the number of people on the tube today wearing gloves and facemasks speaks for itself. On a personal note I did actually manage to buy some hand gell.

I’ll see you all later - I’m going to take a break from the forum.

I'm pretty sure nothing I've said is going to create any panic or hysteria, all I've seen is people taking sensible precautions. However there's also the ones taking silly ones, such as wearing masks. All that does is prevent those who really need them such as surgeons being unable to obtain them.

Hand gel & soap as well as wearing gloves are the only things that can help.
