If it's all the same, I'll stick with the virologists view that it's next to useless along with the official advice which doesn't mention to wear a mask but wash your hands with hand wash or soap.

Luckily it seems London anyway hasn't gone too far down the line of panic. In the West End tonight is business as usual. Very busy , not seen anyone in face masks. Where i live though, the toilet paper hoarding continues. A bizarre reaction at this stage. I hope our most vulnerable people are looked after and not isolated as this is almost as bad as the illness itself.

I've only seen people on the tube wearing masks and it seems most people are carrying on pretty much as usual in London and elsewhere. I suspect the toilet roll hoarding is people stocking up just in case they have to self isolate indeed some vulnerable people have probably already decided it's safer to stay at home.

I’m no doctor. But I am a hypochondriac. I’ve been to walk-in clinics worried sick that I have some sort of horrid disease, only to be sent out without a diagnosis and being told to sort that health anxiety! Even with this, I am not scared at all of catching this crappy little virus. Panicking isn’t going to help matters.
I’ve seen a few people in masks. Unless you’re ill, if you’re still going to be touching your face, it won’t do s**t to protect you. If you’re ill, if you have to go out it is a good idea to wear one to protect others.
Coronavirus is something to be aware of, and I don’t want to dismiss it. Because there’s no vaccine it will be a bit more dangerous than the regular flu, for those who are elderly and have underlying health conditions.
I’m not scared of catching this piffy little virus because I’m young and have a strong immune system, which will completely smash the crown off those worthless c***s. But we do need to protect those who aren’t so lucky. So I agree, take those precautions and lets do our best to stop the virus.
I’m confident that this won’t become the horror that was Spanish flu, which occurred right after WWI. For now, even cases in Wuhan seem to be slowing.
The media isn’t your friend. Keep aware of what is going on but don’t go crazy and don’t start panicking - because that won’t help your immune system.
Swine flu did in fact infect around one billion people, but the world must go on.

Seen people both on the public transport network as well as coming into where I work and walking about in general - not loads yet but no doubt as hysteria spreads, people acquire them despite the fact they're worthless just like the ill advised panic buying that's going at places like Tesco & Sainsbury's (thankfully hasn't occurred at my Iceland branch yet)

I don't think this will come to fruition, once the A380s are grounded there'll be calls to ground 747s, then 777s, then A350s etc

WIll wait for an official confirmation from Lufthansa but a leaked memo has it reported that all 17 A380s will be grounded until at least May.

I hope a cure for this virus is found soon. I have asthma and from what I’ve been reading, people with “underlying chronic conditions” such as asthma and diabetes are more at risk of the virus, so does frighten me a little..

Slightly different, I'm surprised BA are still sending their A380's to HKG. Tonight, XLEC is currently making it's merry way over to Hong Kong, with barely 150 passengers on board! Top deck completely closed off! BA must be loosing a hell of a lot of money on this tonight, as those 150 wont even cover the fuel costs!

I wouldn't be surprised if the return flight is a lot more loaded however I don't think they have the willingness cost-wise to shuffle planes around to send something else to HKG. They'd need to file a new flight plan and work out all the change in fuel costs. Then you throw up the issue that chances are they'll need to replace the Airbus plane with a Boeing one and that could be an issue if the pilots aren't certified.

Sadly, they're predicting that any cure could be found next year at the earliest whilst one expert who worked on the Ebola outbreak has said it's highly possible that this is only the first wave and it could return around November and even become a sort of annual outbreak a bit like the regular flu season.

I'm on lates shifts this week so I haven't seen what the inbound loadings from HKG are like. Intrestingly, the 2nd daily flight to & from HKG, which has been cancelled of late, operates using a B777-300. From memory, the board in the office say's that only one is away in Cardiff at the moment for maintenance, so not quite sure where BA are currently utilising them. Sorry, going rather off topic now!
