Just to balance things little
Blackstone bets on Canary Wharf with office deal
The deal is a fresh sign of confidence in Canary Wharfโs office market, which has been dented by the rise of homeworking since the outbreak of Covid-19 last year.
I'd like to remain optimistic, but it's getting harder and harder. At work today everyone was told to make contact with the I.T Department to ensure we are ready for a potential move to home working should the need arise.

I donโt see an issue with the divide you mention. If you donโt want the vaccine, you are locked down. As for those who wonโt take the vaccine because they donโt know what is in it, I like what some in the LAS say to them. โDo you take paracetamol? Do you know what is in that?โ We are a society built on choice, freedom and the ability to do as we please. We may not like it and nobody has to respect it but ultimately the unvaccinated are exercising their right to choose. Are they morally obligated to have the vaccine, probably and whatever higher power they believe in will judge them at the end of their lives but it is still their right to choose. To lock them in their homes until they are forced to have a vaccination they donโt want is fundamentally wrong and laughs in the face of the rights we all have. Next someone will suggest Australian style internment camps for the unvaccinated like they are using for positive cases in the Northern Territory. Sorry to say but if thatโs the logic then I can have the right to choose to slap every single one of the unvaccinated till they come to their senses and get vaccinated!

Logic would suggest you could but it would likely land you an ABH charge and a small prison sentence. But Iโm sure it would be worth it ๐

I am a bit concerned about how Christmas will look this year with this set back.

I think we have to wait and see about this variant, little early yet regarding Christmas and potential impact - so far, it's not here as far as we know but it will eventually get here and we need to see what the findings are around how effective vaccines are against it. At this point, I'm not too worried but just keeping my eye on things and see how the week unfolds until we know more information

At this point, I'm not too worried but just keeping my eye on things and see how the week unfolds until we know more information Think it could end up being all down to a load of algorithms that'll be used to determine whether we need restrictions or not. The variant has also now turned up in Germany alongside Belgium that was mentioned earlier on this thread. Europe has a lot more strict testing regimes than Southern Africa does and also no doubt a bigger impact on the tourism industry. The obvious solution is to red list any country that starts to have cases reported, but in reality I don't think that will happen. What might end up being the case is that PCR tests become a requirement for the day 2 test as opposed to LFTs. This was always something that could have happened with the high HIV/AIDS prevalence in the Southern half of Africa that the rest of the world constantly turned a blind eye to. Pathogens were always going to eventually mutate dangerously in those individuals and there was never any sort of rush to find a vaccine or better preventative measures. The obvious issue now is that if it's happened in one person down there it will very much happen in more people.

Looks like the government is bringing back facemasks on transport and in shops. More will be announced in the next day or so. I'm glad the government seems to be moving more quickly this time around!
Sadly don't think compliance will be too high because of past messaging but we need to try and contain this variant.

Chris Witty said that he thinks it will be harder to bring people onboard if we do go into another lockdown. I don't mind restrictions such as masks but I think really it would be a shame if they brought in stricter measures, feels like a step backwards. I agree I don't think compliance will be high

People would revolt, and businesses are already upset with Boris and his Peppa Pig speech ๐ 2 cases, not deaths or hospitalizations... we all have to be careful for now. More are working from home, seeing a conference rather than a public address shows a different tack this time around ๐

Wearing facemasks is no hardship compared to lockdowns.

Wearing facemasks is no hardship compared to lockdowns. The measures now are fairly reasonable, but it's not the way we should be moving forward. Restrictions should be seen as a thing of the past, and so should compulsory mask wearing (unless it gets really bad). But as things stand only 2 people in this country have the Omicron variant, so maybe compulsory mask wearing is a bit extreme. It's a step backwards I feel.

I agree I don't think compliance will be high Obviously nobody wants further lockdowns but covid is a law unto itself. I've got relatives in Australia and they've had troops on the streets helping the police enforce restrictions, at the moment we're doing quite well.
