I’ve continued to wear a mask on transport and in shops anyway, so won’t make a difference to me. I just hope we won’t have more lockdowns again, that’s what would really worry me.
I shall try and avoid RailUK Forum from now on - that place is full of anti-maskers, and I ended up having an argument on there last time

No way have the government panicked, finally they are woken up after countless mistakes. Wearing facemasks is no hardship compared to lockdowns. The measures now are fairly reasonable, but it's not the way we should be moving forward. Restrictions should be seen as a thing of the past, and so should compulsory mask wearing (unless it gets really bad). But as things stand only 2 people in this country have the Omicron variant, so maybe compulsory mask wearing is a bit extreme. It's a step backwards I feel. If it's a step backwards then so be it. Considering 40k people per day are testing positive and there's still over 100 deaths per day under the Government's way of calculating mortality figures, compulsory mask wearing should never have been taken away. Maybe if it hadn't been taken away more people would be wearing face coverings on public transport now

Looks like the government is bringing back facemasks on transport and in shops. More will be announced in the next day or so. I'm glad the government seems to be moving more quickly this time around! Sadly don't think compliance will be too high because of past messaging but we need to try and contain this variant. Wearing a mask don’t bother me as I’ve not stopped wearing one both for work, shopping or transport anyway so really for me it’s continue as I am. So far, the government are taking the correct approach for once, let’s see how it unfolds

Likewise I've been wearing a face covering in shops and on public transport, it's only a minor inconvenience.

New variant now named Omicron!
Our daily cases was already rising with over 50k new cases reported today.
New Covid variant classed as ‘of concern’ by WHO and called Omicron
This name for the new variant rhymes with the French President seeking re-election next year.

Amidst the daily cases having risen from the 30,000s to over 40,000 it is a sign of success of the vaccines that the numbers in hospital have remained below 10,000 since March.
I had my booster on Tuesday. It was Pfizer and, for a few days, I felt as though my arm had been punched. On Wednesday I had a shiver which developed into a touch of fatigue. By Thursday afternoon and particular yesterday this wore off.

Not something I’ve seen before on any other forums I’m a part of.

Only thing that annoys me there is how they're picky about having to quote when providing info from from external websites and having to create new threads as other similar ones get locked

I can see the argument. You wear face masks to protect others, not yourself. Why should you try and protect the unvaccinated? If they do not need a vaccine, the risk is theirs.

I had a quick look, nearly all of them talking absolute hogwash. Decided against it. I can see the argument. You wear fask masks to protect others, not yourself. Why should you try and protect the unvaccinated? If they do not need a vaccine, the risk is theirs. I'd also rather those wear face masks and protect me. As a triple vaccinated person on the "vulnerable" list working on the rails I want them to protect me as well. There is no argument
