Give some thought as to what next will look like. Probably well over 1m isolating and several thousand more falling ill. I really can’t see how much will be actually functioning next week and next month. I don’t deny how serious covid is for some people. But the fact is, for the absolute vast majority, it is an illness that goes after around 10 days. Do we shut down normal society functions and risk absolute chaos, or do we stop all the testing and stop isolation. I think Omicron will force us to change our methods. This is spreading extremely rapidly. The choice I think is we now live with it, or create even more chaos by locking ourselves down . If we do the latter, I actually don’t think there will be any shops open next week. There has to be a balance. So that means testing, isolation, vaccination, mask wearing and advising shielding for the most vulnerable. That in no way means that the vulnerable should be in lockdown but merely the same sensible advise the NHS offers every winter for the vulnerable in society. If all that doesn’t work then a new approach should be looked at but for now the balanced approach should be taken to ensure as many of us as possible can continue our daily lives.

Andy Byfords response is so much more professional than Kahns. It takes time to properly assess finances and work through options. The DfT aren’t just gonna roll over and agree without proper scrutiny and Kahns comment just shows his inexperience and inability to see beyond his rhetoric.

You need to remember one of them is a politician and that will skew what he says.

You would think with an issue as important as the future of London's transport body that he wouldn't resort to petty one-upping.

Seems people are being sensible as we approach Christmas! Hardly anyone is using public transport! Wouldn’t believe it was the Saturday before Christmas.
Lots of face masks in use which is good to see.

Anti vaxx "freedom" lot blocking Oxford Street. Park Lane, Edgware Road and Bayswater Road completely gridlocked.

Honestly very worried and the tube strike doesn't seem to be helping matters.

Yes not long after posting I realised there was a strike with 17 min gaps on the Jubilee Line which is dangerous with the current infection rate.

Anti vaxx "freedom" lot blocking Oxford Street. Park Lane, Edgware Road and Bayswater Road completely gridlocked. Very irresponsible, as it can affect people being driven to hospital for example. Besides, as it is not even law that we are required to take the vaccine, they have absolutely nothing to protest against. When we look at the trend of 7-day average cases, it is scary how the line is literally vertical. A small respite is that today's figure is around 3000 lower than yesterday's.

That is because there is always a dip in the recording of cases/hospitalisations/deaths over the weekend. The figure often increases sharply on Mondays.
