Seems people are being sensible as we approach Christmas! Hardly anyone is using public transport! Wouldn’t believe it was the Saturday before Christmas. Lots of face masks in use which is good to see. Naff weather and mixed messages from the government has probably kept a lot away. It seemed everyone was at the "Jabathon" on Lordship Lane, Tottenham... hordes of people queuing for vaccines and boosters, I took advantage of the walk in service, beats waiting ages for an appointment (website crashed). The police managed to catch up with the perpetrator behind the crank calls threatening an imminent 2 week lockdown... and brought him into custody

Reports that the one Omicron death was an unvaccinated anti-vaxer. If true, then they exercised their freedom....at the ultimate cost.

Reports that the one Omicron death was an unvaccinated anti-vaxer. If true, then they exercised their freedom....at the ultimate cost. There were loads of these anti vaxxers protesting in the west end yesterday, the sad thing is most of these who die from the virus usually have underlying symptoms (but it will always be Covid that is written as cause of death). The odd thing is this latest strain is so mild, very few are hospitalised with it. Look at the outbreak which swept through Spurs, I think a lot of players didn't realise they had it, had it not been for PCR tests. Boris has the delicate act of rescuing what's left of the economy during the most important time of year, 3ach lockdown has an impact on families when schools close, especially if you cannot work from home and have to fork out for childcare, plus the impact on children themselves. The fact most of the politicians will do their own thing means that any lockdown will have little effect. It will then be a point where no one wants to go to work, meaning transport suffers even more and offices lie empty. But we can't shut down each winter.

With the rapid rise in COVID cases in London do you think we at a point where capacity restrictions need to be reintroduced on buses? I know it would be difficult to enforce without signage on doors.

Not at this stage. Possibly revisit this in the New Year when we know how Omicron is playing out in terms of hospitalisations and deaths. In the meantime people can make their own decisions about the passenger loadings they feel comfortable with. Mask wearing and ventilation are far more important.

Latest covid vaccine data, shows that over 50% (of 12 years and up) have now had their third jab / booster
Deaths (within 28 days of positive test) is still falling Hospitalisations are rising marginally (close to flat)
Also seems lots of people are only discovering they have covid from a test, as not feeling ill.

Which suggests to me that the government is right to promote mask usage and booster vaccines together with a urging the public to exercise responsibility and caution rather than go too far and bring us back to a lockdown situation. If things haven’t improved by the beginning of January I would say they should look at additional measures like home schooling for some non core years groups like 4/5/6/7/8.

I dispute you including year 6 as a non-core year group. It's crucial for preparing students for secondary, and preparation does run through the whole year.

Talk of a 4th booster in the spring now! The third booster starts to wanes after 10 weeks.
Still feel pretty rubbish a week after my third one! We can’t keep injecting every 3 months.

No I think many people now will be considering whether it’s needed, especially if the virus appears to becoming less of a threat. Time to ramp down testing, isolation and get back to some normality.

Would be quite silly to ramp down testing and isolation, the virus won't decide that just because testing has gone down that it will stop transmitting.

It is not less of a threat. You are three times as likely to catch it if you come into contact with someone with Omicron. So, even if the risk of hospitalisation/death/long Covid is much less likely with Omicron, the probability of a person catching it and getting seriously ill is the same with Omicron or Delta.

Very true - you see these daft comments on social media where people rage about stop testing people. I don't want to see overly negative this near to Christmas but very wary of the government at the moment, I have this feeling they are trying to play the hero giving us Christmas but as soon as we hit new year they will suddenly change back to the virus is a major threat. The virus is going to run rampant over the holidays already my Boxing Day plans have had to change because a family member tested positive. I did a LFT last night and honestly never felt so nervous waiting for the result.
