Another lockdown is out of the question, most of the population are vaccinated, we can’t keep going in and out of lockdown because of a new variant, Omnicron hasn’t created the apocalypse people thought it would, 2022 should be about returning to normal, after all the hypocrisy from the government I doubt another lockdown would be realistically enforced. Time to focus on mental health, other ailments and help out smaller businesses and keeping jobs safe again. I agree about the lockdown. it is now starting to look stupid. I would not even bother with it anymore. What is the point in taking all these vaccines etc to still keep shutting down. End of the day the virus is not going away and is with us for the foreseeable future whether we like it or not. Omnicron is causing less fatalities compared to the previous variants and I really cannot see what the big fuss is all about. There are more people now off work due to the lateral flow tests which were not readily available a year ago. People now use them and if test positive isolate, even if nothing is wrong or no symptoms. Exactly, I don’t even think you need a booster for this variant (I’m probably going to be called a granny killer for this opinion) omnicron is basically a cold, we do need to live with this snd not take one step forward and ten steps back into any kind of restrictions now, 2022 should not be a repeat of 2020-21

As far as I'm concerned if medical experts are saying that a booster is necessary then that's who I'm going to listen to. Reality is that cases are still surging throughout Europe and there is a risk of health services being overwhelmed.

You bang on about business and mental health but seem very selfish and only concern about certain age groups with the pandemic.

You can get boostered if you want to, we still have freedom of choice, however to claim that health services will be overwhelmed by Omnicron is overblowing it a bit, South Africa has lifted all restrictions and have said it’s mild, are you going to listen to their medical experts or only the ones who don’t want us to live with Covid? Omnicron has proven to not be deadly so the health service should be able to cope they’ve had two years to prepare for any onslaught have they not?

I’m only referring to that quote as people With my point of view have been called such things, please get off your high horse you’ve dismissed mental health issues consistently don’t pretend you care about such things now, I’ve seen many on here dismiss the bad effects of lockdown nobody should be claiming a moral high ground

Do you go to examine hospitals on a daily to claim that health services are not being overwhelmed? Or are you choosing to ignore that fact that BHR trust has no ICU beds left available, how St George's has been on its knees for the past two weeks with staff absences on the wards and ICU and how Lewisham and Queen Mary's Hospitals are both unable to accept visitors now? If that's not overwhelming the health services then I do worry about what your opinion on the NHS being overwhelmed is. Operations are now being cancelled as Consultants, Surgeons, Doctors, Nurses, Clinical Support and Admin staff are all approaching 25% absence which no doubt would have been prevented should more stringent measures be in place. There's no denying Omicron is mild, but the point you seem to continuously be ignoring is that this just gives the opportunity for even more mutations to occur. If you read some work published by Scientists to obtain an all around view you will notice that scientists are generally concerned about everything and support further restrictions, this doesn't mean find the fastest Daily Mail article but actually see what the Scientists themselves are saying. The book "Vaxxers" by Professor Sarah Gilbert and Dr Catherine Green actually talks about the threat of future mutations and how they do actually mutate and why they mutate. You are acting like Omicron is the last variant and that it will never change and will always be mild forever. That is not the case.

I agree with you that the evidence is it seems to be mild but we must also remember that South Africa has a younger population than the UK so it could work completely different - not asking for lockdown or restrictions btw. A variant doesn’t have to be deadly to overwhelm the NHS - this variant seems to be a disruptor where it infects ridiculously quick causing a swell in demand of the surface whilst also causing staff to isolate too. As for planning for it, the NHS is usually overwhelmed in this period even pre Covid so having this on top is going to hard to pre plan for.

If the situation in hospitals are so bad why haven’t they reopened the Nightengale hospitals to off set the load? Why keep them closed? They obviously can’t be that worried, each variant will get weaker at this point, I don’t know how we can possibly justify more restrictions, this time of year is always bad for hospitals even before Covid, we cannot keep going in and out of restrictions indefinitely, it is getting beyond ridiculous now, there are also scientists saying that we must live with Covid, funny how the media doesn’t air those views.

Speaking of, will this affect the 493/G1 in any way?

What sort of basis are you using to say every variant will get milder? That's total nonsense and that is just completely incorrect and its just not how viruses work. Just because we have by chance got a weak mutation does not mean at all any future variants will be weaker. Scientists are indeed saying we need to live with Covid, but that can be done once we have an adequate plan in place rather than just winging it and killing people off on the way.

Erm because most were closed down and dismantled or converted back to their former use (Excel). They are in the process of being rebuilt now!

Covid is becoming endemic now, we will have enough antibodies to fight it off like a cold or flu, are you any more qualified to suggest I’m incorrect? We’ve had two years to prepare to live with Covid how long do you suggest we should keep putting that off? Another year or two? That’s just not sustainable and it’s nonsense that we have to keep putting off the inevitable.
