Something that dawned on me is that NS enviro 400s mostly consist of those that originated all 3 south london garages. Yeah and in terms of the official on-paper allocation of the 11/12 reg NS Enviro 400 routes, each of the 3 routes (86, 128 & 247) is allocated with batches new to all 3 different Selkent garages with the 86 is mostly allocated with the ex PD ones from the 53, the 247 is allocated ex 136 12 reg batch from TL and finally the 128 got the ex 208 ones from TB. In reality its a bit different with the 247 predominantly using the 11regs and both the ex TL & TB 12 reg batches are mostly found on the 86 & 128, the 12 regs do still get used on the 247 on a daily buses but that's normally small proportion of the daily run out and they do get some use on the 294, 296 & 498.
None of this surprises me although it is an interesting set of events. I still reckon Romford and Croydon have the highest average age among major interchange areas of London. (They are also the only areas I haven't been to since 2014, although Croydon has fallen through twice).

Quick question. Was in Stratford Bus Station yesterday and noticed a number of Stagecoach 11-reg E400's with the rear number plate set in the bumper ECWTA style, think 19806 and 19814 from memory are 2.
I always thought 19835 was the first of the Stagecoach ECWTA E400s. Looked on buslistontheweb and noticed 19806 was the start of a new build batch so assumed this was the first built to ECTWA regs. Now looked at flickr and there are pictures of these vehicles with their number plates beside the rear number display. So quick question, is this a NS initiative, and have all their examples been done? Have any other garages carried out this modification?

Yes it is an NS and also RM thing where they repositioned the rear number plate position to bottom bumper on their 11reg E400's and also can be found on any of the other 11regs that were at NS or RM that got transferred elsewhere like 19747/748/768 at PD and 19828 at BK which all have the bottom bumper rear number plate position.
19774 at BK also got the relocated rear number plate position even though every other 11reg E400's at BK that isn't 19828 still retains the centre-left number plate position next to the blinds.

Thank you, so over half the fleet of 11-regs has been done! Now you have said that I have vague recollections of something being said about this a few years ago.

From tomorrow (Saturday 25th June) route 135 will be with its fourth operator (Arriva, Go-Ahead, Tower Transit and now Stagecoach) - not bad for a route that has existed for less than fifteen years!

Just spotted a couple of D8’s and as expected they still have Tower Transit logos. I noticed buses still have Tower Transit legal but looks like the Tower Transit bit has been removed? I wonder if this means LI is going to be standalone like the old Thamesside RM operation? Or just a case of the legals not being changed yet?

A lot of them have a legal which has "The Lea Interchange bus company, T/A Stagecoach London" followed by the WH address. Does indeed suggest a standalone subsidiary.

Apparently it is now called the Lea Interchange Bus Company Limited t/a Stagecoach. So quite possibly a standalone legal entity for driver contracts, vehicles etc.

The naming suggest this is just a renaming of the company Tower Transit set up to operate the LI operations. It maybe that all the formalities to merge companies are not ready completed, so may just be a stepping stone. All that has happened is Stagecoach have taken ownership of the company .... full integration maybe someway off. Imagine initial priority will be to ensure all the backend systems are using Stagecoach tech, rather than the hereditary Tower Transit systems. Changing logos and numbers can be done as and when, as long as staff know which bus is which.

This is a interesting development and to me sounds like thing are even more likely to stay as they are now at LI.

I wouldn't think so, Stagecoach have already said they've identified numerous changes that need to be made. This is a common tactic usually used by companies to ensure a smooth takeover as instead of absorbing everything they can do it at their own pace and operations wise many ground staff are unlikely to notice any immediate change.

A 10reg VN on the D8 had a ripped rear blind today and I noticed it was the most recent blind set with the 733 and 678 showing. I wonder why this bus had updated blinds as it can’t be used on the 135.
Feels weird posting this in the Stagecoach thread 😀
