It was 30 years ago now but there was one man who lived close to the Abbey Wood Lane stand who was responsible for almost all of the complaints emanating from that location. He wasn't a bus user but used to complain every time someone left their engine running, or lights on, or revved to build up air, or parked 6 inches beyond the marked bay, or basically anything he could find. If I remember it was the 287 which was most in his sights and it got to the point where we basically used to beg the drivers to be as quiet as church mice in the area. There is a person on YouTube who devotes their entire channel to filming 124s on Southend Crescent idling, filming the drivers clearly with time and bus fleet code/registration logged tirelessly Oh my gosh I’ve seen enough…

2 165 MMC’s allocated to 193 (Run numbers 2 and 4) and 1 on the 296 (Run Number 454) Oh wow, 10.9m on the 193, didn’t realise they were allowed on the route. 10.9s would occasionally make appearances on the 193 when Go Ahead ran it

It shocks me how these people waste their energy on these things. Especially as they will be marked down as a vexatious nuisance and a "Do Not Engage" policy will be adopted.

Are there any double decker BZLs for the 58 that have not entered service yet? I believe 10 have made themselves on the route, 5-6 more to go for it to fully convert.

It seems to be the longest type introduction in history. There must be a reason for it - type training issues or issues with the vehicles themselves?

" If I remember it was the 287 which was most in his sights and it got to the point where we basically used to beg the drivers to be as quiet as church mice in the area' His complaints certainly made an impact - I think he was an agenda item at meetings if I remember rightly - he used to phone or write once or twice a week. We even looked at tweaking the schedule to make AWL a pause point with no stand time but I don't think there was any more stand space at Barking. I think he'd lived in the same house all his life and so it's possible he's still there. Maybe he's mellowed because I don't think he'd take kindly to the conversion of the 165 to DD.

It has been interesting reading the various comments about people complaining about buses! This is nothing new, I remember having to go to Upton Park garage in earlier 1990s and reading staff notices instructing drivers to ensure engines are switched off whilst standing at Keir Hardie (147) due to residential complaints.
I am a little surprised the discussions here are 99% in support of buses and have little or no sympathy for local residents! Maybe its the enthusiast side that makes people more bias towards buses.

Random one ment to post this on other day , but haven't been Stratford for a while but I see two 257s on Wednesday standing at the back of stop C at Stratford , one also had a blue running card in the holder saying route 257 instead of the normal yellow running number , What was the running number about ? And do 257s now stand there when late or for a quick turnaround ? I posted about this along with ThinLizzy a week or so ago and it seems it could be linked to buses running a reduced service as far as Leyton Green during the daytime. tangytango.proboards.com/post/828473I think the 257 has used the back part of stop C to stand for a few years now? not sure if buses use other parts of the bus station if that stand is full.

Only 2 diesels on the 97 right now! Looks like the route is doing better at becoming fully hybrid! Unfortunately neither B5LH MMC has strayed on any other route in LI so I guess they are bounded to that route! Really need to see one on the 135..!

I really wouldn’t read much into one day especially at the weekend. The 262 and 472 used to have good and bad days. I expect the 97 will need support for the duration of the contract.

I definitely agree with you, I just wish something could be done about the unreliability of the Streetdecks... I do wonder if LI can perhaps keep a few extra Gemini 2's, that are compliant to be able to help, obviously the 10 reg ones are already starting to get withdrawn so therefore wouldn't be suitable.

They should have enough B5LHs to cover for any Streetdecks

When I was at Rainham we actually got very few complaints from AWL, well ones that made it to the garage anyway, so I can only assume that the person in question has moved on, however everyone was aware of the do's and don't there. Cranham however was much worse, almost weekly somone there wasn't happy about something
