It was 30 years ago now but there was one man who lived close to the Abbey Wood Lane stand who was responsible for almost all of the complaints emanating from that location. He wasn't a bus user but used to complain every time someone left their engine running, or lights on, or revved to build up air, or parked 6 inches beyond the marked bay, or basically anything he could find. If I remember it was the 287 which was most in his sights and it got to the point where we basically used to beg the drivers to be as quiet as church mice in the area. There is a person on YouTube who devotes their entire channel to filming 124s on Southend Crescent idling, filming the drivers clearly with time and bus fleet code/registration logged tirelessly If drivers didn't leave engines running on the stand this person would have nothing to film.

It has been interesting reading the various comments about people complaining about buses! This is nothing new, I remember having to go to Upton Park garage in earlier 1990s and reading staff notices instructing drivers to ensure engines are switched off whilst standing at Keir Hardie (147) due to residential complaints. I am a little surprised the discussions here are 99% in support of buses and have little or no sympathy for local residents! Maybe its the enthusiast side that makes people more bias towards buses. It does make me laugh how some people seem to think the bus industry should operate with impunity and should never be held to account for anything.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting otherwise, but running double deckers on a busy route (which started all this) is hardly “impunity”! There also tends to be a very high level of compliance with switching off engines at termini in my experience. We have a highly professional bus service in London that generally operates to good standards around health and safety, operational quality etc

Yes most drivers do behave professionally but inevitably there will be a few that don't and obviously people are going to complain about engines left running etc.

And to note down the fleetnumber and time as well? Thats just downright creepy

Oh my gosh I’ve seen enough… You are in for a treat Youtube LinkHis complaints certainly made an impact - I think he was an agenda item at meetings if I remember rightly - he used to phone or write once or twice a week. We even looked at tweaking the schedule to make AWL a pause point with no stand time but I don't think there was any more stand space at Barking. I think he'd lived in the same house all his life and so it's possible he's still there. Maybe he's mellowed because I don't think he'd take kindly to the conversion of the 165 to DD. When I was at Rainham we actually got very few complaints from AWL, well ones that made it to the garage anyway, so I can only assume that the person in question has moved on, however everyone was aware of the do's and don't there. Cranham however was much worse, almost weekly somone there wasn't happy about something This is a joke plus the Videos are all for Children as it advertises the You Tube kids app. Whoever this is needs to be punched in the face with major force… after just watching a video of him harassing a driver…

Thats just downright creepy I haven't watched all the videos but if they didn't note the fleet number then it would be difficult to trace the driver. Engines should be switched off and if drivers don't do that there's likely to be repercussions. The only possible reason I can see for keeping an engine running is if it's cold.

According to a friend who has more knowledge of PD, 'officially' Diesels are/will be allocated to the 422 for the new contract & a school route.
Can anyone confirm whether true?
Thanks

New EVs have been ordered for the 257. Guess that the 7x Hybrid MMCs will be drafted on to the 275?
Still awaiting the new order for the 169, 247 & 287.

I'd be quite surprised if the 247's order is anything other than Electroliners as it currently uses some of the 242 batch, so drivers are type trained. Other two will likely be between E400EV, BZL and Electroliner.

Thanks Stagey won the 422 in 2017 orginally with majority diesels & 4 hybrids. Although in practice the diesels are used across 96/161/422/472 & hybrids on every route ofc so 422 often sees more hybrids daily than its actually allocated. yes, diesels will remain allocated to 422 since Stagey just retained it with diesels this year. I believe 669 is the school route?

I believe 669 is the school route? The reason the 422 sees more Hybrids could be the following two reasons, either as PD garages formula is any bus, any route (as long as compliant) or in general the number of Hybrids are far greater than the number of Diesels at PD. As I said before the 96 sees the most Diesels but is not officially allocated them & is fully allocated Hybrids instead.

Referring to the 275, it could well take the Hybrid MMCs from the 257 but there is only 7 which would not cover the PVR. Think the 275 is up for tender next year anyways?
