Welcome to my world lol. The reason that I am into buses is cos of the Diesels that I have grew up with mainly being TAs, TNLs, VLAs etc. Not too say I still love new MMCs as long as it is Diesel. Tbf with me it is mainly my principal of what I feel strongly about that we do not need Battery buses e.g Hybrid/Electric which also pollute and have emissions in other ways (have said this many times). Sadly the old buses have and are disappearing from London rapidly hence why I go out a bit when have free time. I suggest taking a trip to Surrey around Guildford where Stagecoach TAs still run. To be honest, I absolutely love the electrics. I can remember getting on one on the 174 for the first time being really impressed with the bright airy interior and how smooth they are, almost as nice as a diesel MMC. Likewise, the new E200EVs on the 366 are fantastic. I'm also really looking forward to the electrics starting on the 86 as it's my local route. I grew up with mostly Ts (Titans) and the variety Grey Green used to send out on the 173 and 179 (will be sad to see DX go if it closes,) and what Ensign/Capital Citybus would send out on anything, but I'd much rather something modern like an electric I'm the opposite to all this as I'd much rather something along the lines of a T, M or L or even some of the early and mid low floor stuff however, I'm happy to conceded that electrics and other cleaner emissions propulsion are the way forward - so long as the preserved scene doesn't get penalised in the future as a result

I do like the little whine the Electroliners make & their quick acceleration.

Rare that it seems to see an EMC on the 312 at the moment you'd think the fleet number on the side of the bus and what's shown on the roof would match up! Here's EMC8 at East Croydon with a bit of an identity crisis! www.flickr.com/photos/16299801@N03/53205660975/

But if I was writing as a 'civilian' I would plump for EV and was particularly taken with the Abellio BYD Enviro Citys on the 63 and U5 when I first rode on them; for me, a step-change in passenger experience.

As a passenger though, I cannot stress enough how amazing those high spec EVs are in hot weather!! Very much needed when we do occasionally get weather like that, will trade that for an engine noise any day The buses on the 174 in the recent hot weather was nice, upperdeck cooling was very effective. Some of the 248 LT's also seemed to have been re-gassed, I don't know if it was part of the refurb package, but in the hot weather it was pumping cool air. Compared to non refurb ones on the 5 and EL3 which were roastmasters. Agree, credit where credit is due LTs that I have been on have been quite cool this summer.

So yesterday I had a fun morning, I started and took a bus out the garage and run empty to Thornton Heath High Street. Was on 198. Firstly they had given me HA20, when I started the bus, there was a constant alarm going off saying "Warning, fire system pressure low". I had never heard that alarm before but the bus drove very nicely. Although, when testing the wheelchair ramp operation, the right side of the bus went down and the left side of the bus went up. I thought this was very suspicious. I started service, picked one passenger up and she stated it smelt very weird. I had to swap it out straight away and was given HA19.
Sometimes, these HA's overheat very easily as there was a temperature symbol also on the dashboard and was smoking at the back, had to contact the engineer again

I wonder if in the case DX is disposed of (which is looking likely), Arriva will still hold on to it or sell it. If it’s being sold I could see GAL and Stagecoach eagerly eyeing up the space 👀

Can’t see them doing that unless the whole industrial area is brought out, which doesn’t seem to have happened. You’d need to persuade all the others to sell.

your statement is accurate Do you have a source of some kind? They probably don't and makes my original post look factual when it was not intended in that way. i suspect Buses678 was trying to agree with my thinking but might not have used the wrong wording.
I agree with what Eastlondoner62 said in reply to my post but do think long term the area will probably be redeveloped.

Who knows, maybe as they get on they might become more interesting? They'll be around for 14 years, mind, so they could become quite interesting as each bus ages.
I would argue the removal of the engine isn't the reason why electric buses are less interesting? If there weren't so many 20 zones and the city wasn't as congested as it is, you could have electric buses thrash their way down roads.
Kickdown is a thing of the past because modern gearbox software can be configured to hold gears long enough to provide good acceleration

it's a fairly big site so could be redeveloped even though the surrounding area is pretty light industrial- certainly didn't stop some of the early redevelopment of Silvertown and Gallions Reach being a stones throw from Beckton Sewage Works.
