Restructure ideas for East London
Eltham/Greenwich area:SL4 - Not introduced, replaced by changes to routes 132 and 335. 335 - Extended from Kidbrooke to Grove Park, via Weigall Road, Eltham Road, Burnt Ash Road and Baring Road. 132 - Withdrawn between Bexleyheath and Eltham (using the 126 stand), and also extended from North Greenwich to Canary Wharf via the Silvertown Tunnel and Leamouth. Frequency increased. Also adding a stop (unlike the SL4) at the north end of the Silvertown Tunnel, serving the Royal Docks area. 321 - Revised to operate between New Cross and Bexleyheath via the N21, replacing part of the 132. 421 - New route from North Greenwich to Foots Cray, via the 108 to Westcombe Park, 286 to Eltham, and 321 to Foots Cray. Using DDs about every 10 minutes. B16 - Withdrawn. 126 - Extended from Eltham to Bexleyheath via the B16, and converted to DDs. 286 - Diverted between Eltham and Greenwich, via the B16 to Kidbrooke, then Weigall Road, Eltham Road, Lee Road, Blackheath Station, and the 386 back to Cutty Sark (terminating from the west). Route 386 continues to link Greenwich to Blackheath (Royal Standard), and the 421 covering Westcombe Park to Eltham. 386 - Withdrawn between Blackheath Village and Greenwich (Cutty Sark), removing the indirect loop around Blackheath. Possible short extension in the future from Greenwich to serve new developments in the Deptford area. Frequency increased to every 12 minutes. Canary Wharf/Hackney area:
D3 - Withdrawn, replaced by revised 100/236, plus the 132 above replacing the section between Canary Wharf and London City Island. 100 - Extended from Shadwell to Canary Wharf, maintaining the loop via Shadwell Station, then The Highway, Butcher Row, Limehouse Station and Westferry, terminating at the Wood Wharf development. Could go via Narrow Street if buses can fit. 236 - Revised to operate between Finsbury Park and Wapping, offering new links across inner NE London, via the current route to Ash Grove, south to Bethnal Green Station, the D3 to Shadwell Station, then Garnet Road to Wapping Station (looping via Prusom Street to turn around). Route 394 continues to link the Haggerston area to Hackney/Homerton, while other routes are more direct for destinations further west. 394 - Extended from Homerton to Hackney Wick via the 236. Increased to every 12 minutes, and dual-door SDs introduced. 277 - Short extension from Dalston to Newington Green (via Balls Pond Road and Mildmay Park). I wouldn't extend the 335 to Grove Park, it could mean buses arriving in Kidbrooke already well loaded. I think the SL4 might as well be a normal all stops service, although your suggestion of extending the 132 to Canary Wharf instead sounds reasonable. I'm a bit dubious about the suggested rerouting of the 286 and I'd be reluctant to change the 321 although the 126/B16 merger sounds ok, the 126 used to do that years ago. Probably better to have a new route Eltham to Greenwich via Kidbrooke and Blackheath replacing part of the 386 as you suggested.

324 towards Brent Cross Tesco to stop at stop B at Brent Cross Shopping Centre 324 towards Elstree to stop at stop C at Brent Cross Shopping Centre I don't see the point in these changes. Stop B is for routes going towards Staples Corner and the rest are for routes going anywhere else. Plus 324 already has a stop just outside the bus station which works just fine

I don't know East London well, but South East London I know like the back of my hand (well, Greenwich and bits of Lewisham and Bexley anyway). So, here goes: 335: Actually a good idea. SL4: Should be kept in my opinion, as it could run express to Lee and then Grove Park, and maybe an extension to Bromley to connect to the rest of the SL network? 132: should be kept as it is. 321: should be kept as it is. 421: not implemented. The first section is already crowded. B16: should be kept as it is, plus proposed Kidbrooke reroute. 126: extended to Plumstead via Westmount Road (+ Rochester Way if gate cannot be removed) and the 122. Also converted to double deckers later, but not initially to see demand patterns like 178. 286: should be kept as it is, but maybe extended to Deptford due to aforementioned developments 386: how dare you mess with the 386! Kept as it is, thank you very much!

335 : as I’d rather the SL4 is introduced, the 335 can be left alone 132 : as with the 335, the 132 can be left alone if the SL4 is introduced 286/321/421 : all these changes are like rearranging deckchairs on the beach - little point or purpose. The 321/421 change would be particularly unpopular with locals. B16 : I have wondered about localising the Eltham - Kidbrooke leg of this route (let’s call that 416) and making B16 just Eltham to Bexleyheath (starting it at the station in Eltham). If the 126 were extended to Woolwich, the 416 could stand where the 126 does currently. 126 : yes double deckers, not sure the through traffic would be sufficient for it to cover the B16. I’d rather, if it were extended, for it to go to Woolwich via Westmount Road, Rochester Way and current 161 (and for the 161 to get to Woolwich via Academy Road). Only problem would possibly be stand space in Woolwich. Good idea for 126! And interesting point about straightening the 161. The B16/416 though, that would just result in really short routes.

I think the 187 and 224 should be kept the same with a new route from Wembley Central to North Finchley to replace the 232 and 112 (credit to bk10mfe). Not a fan of the 224 double run.

187 would be too long in my opinion if you extend it to Alperton Sainsburys and I’d leave the 224 as it is. About the 232, I think it should run between Wood Green and Brent Park Tesco being double decked and I would extend the 16 to Wembley to create space for the 232 at Brent Park.

Proposals to withdraw routes 288
288 related canges:
79: Extension from Edgware Station to Broadfields Estate. This will replace the northern half of the 288 and also retain Broadfields Estates link to Queensbury Station and provide Broadfields with a more frequent service with new connections.
292: Withdrawn between Colindale Superstores and Edgware and extended to Queensbury Morrisons via the 288. Currently, there are 2 other frequent routes (32 and 142) which both run from Edgware to Colindale Superstores which will mean that link is not lost and 292 passengers from areas further north than Edgware can just change for those routes at Edgware Bus Station
125: Not exactly a change the has to come into play however a small extension from Colindale Station to Colindale Superstores would be nice.

The 288 is more frequent than the 79 as it runs every 10 minutes as opposed to the 79 which is every 12 minutes. I'm not local to the routes but I'd can't imagine Broadfields Estate residents being happy losing their usual route for a route coming all the way from Alperton, a congestion magnet of a place and passing through Wembley, another prone to horrible congestion which could result in reduced reliability. When I used to use the 292 on Saturdays when I was ticking off every VLP, the first stop opposite the ASDA saw quite a bit of usage for both the 292 & 303. That and the fact the 288 section between Edgware & Queensbury would be reduced in half from every 10 to every 20 minutes under your proposal doesn't make much sense to change the current situation.

Didnt realise the use of the 288. More frequent than the 79 is actually insane so fair enough however a frequency increase would help the route out well.

386 - Withdrawn between Blackheath Village and Greenwich (Cutty Sark), removing the indirect loop around Blackheath. Possible short extension in the future from Greenwich to serve new developments in the Deptford area. Frequency increased to every 12 minutes. 386: how dare you mess with the 386! Kept as it is, thank you very much! The extension from Cutty Sark to Blackheath Village was a disaster for the rest of the route. Very few passengers use it. It should go with the resource used to increase the frequency on the remainder of the route. The running of the route is not helped by the appalling state of the vehicles. Even the later ex route 100 buses are now in poor condition. (BTW I use the route most days.)
