No need already 4 bus routes serving Sangley Road during the daytime doesn’t need a 5th. 225 also stands at Hither Green no space for another route. It might've been you who mentioned it on here but somebody suggested the addition of extras between Catford & North Downham Estate to ease overcrowding on the 124, perhaps the 171 could always do that and terminate just before North Downham (there's no way one would get through) Pointless because passengers will still use the 124. Last year there was a long term diversion where the 124 missed out the North Downham Estate and everyone had to walk to their homes. In addition I have already said 4 bus routes already serve Sangley Road / Sandhurst Road.

But then in saying that do you think there is no provision to add another stand there? There is no need for another bus route in that area or another stand in a residential area. Bromley Road a busy main road is more suitable for a high frequency route like the 171 and has been the case since 1994... If anything replacing the 181 between Lewisham and Catford with the 171 would solve the capacity problems that the 181 gets on Hither Green Lane. Doubt it would happen as the 181 & 225 clears the road. Nah we don't need the 171 to go to Lewisham, the 136 already covers that link. From Catford

Firstly do NOT speak to me like that about I "Clearly didn't read the post properly". Secondly I mentioned the 171 as a suggestion as to whether if it could be pulled from Bromley Road and diverted elsewhere in which you said there's 4 routes around Sangley Road and there's not enough space around Hither Green. Where did I mention that I wanted the 171 to go to Lewisham? I stated Hither Green and Hither Green only as I know the 136 is another alternative route from Catford that goes to Elephant and Castle.

But then in doing that wouldn't that mean that the 171 would technically be looping back on itself as you then already have the 21, 321, 136 and 436 all going to New Cross and offering a quicker alternative.

I guess (you would also have the 185 between Kilmorie Road & Catford, 122 between Kilmorie Road and Adelaide Avenue, P4 in Brockley) but it would solve an overcrowding issue on the 181 which I suppose isn't a bad thing.
Definitely not a one size fits all thing but I guess you would be linking it to Hither Green like you said and also you'd solve overcrowding issues on the 181 so I guess it would be a win win.

You clearly still don’t get it, the whole point would be to provide double deckers on Hither Green Lane whereas the 181 cannot because of a low bridge on route. 181 provides an indirect link between Lewisham and Catford. Many routes provide indirect links between A & B. 21 136 436 are obviously going to be faster between New Cross & Lewisham.

Probably a case for extending the N171 from Hither Green to Lewisham. Another option would be to extend the 171 to Bromley replacing the 320 but the frequency would be a bit excessive as well as stand space problems.

I can't comment on the first suggestion although I would imagine the 336 would be too low capacity. Perhaps you could extend the 160 but I'm not knowledgeable enough.
Would the 171 be effective down to Bromley thou. People are suggesting the 199 replacing it, it would ultimately link in Bromley to Greenwich and provide more capacity to Lewisham without adding another route to Lewisham.

Not the 160 as there is a low bridge, possibly the 124 though. Extending the 47,171 or 199 to Bromley would be better than the 320 to Catford but stand space is the problem.

I wouldn't rule out the 172 extending to Catford Garage and the 171 withdrawn and left to 12/36/172 with tfl taking advantage of gaining a stand at Elephant for another route.

Trying to run a 47 from Shoreditch to Bromley is asking for a lot of trouble so clearly the 320 is better than the 47. I’d argue the 171 could be problematic as well so really the 199 is the only alternative without making needless changes to other routes
