A real-term fare cut to Santander Cycles too. A reversal to the change to charge per half-hour iirc rather than per day, which along with increased competition, led to rentals dropping despite overall increases in cycling (from launch it was previously pay once and get unlimited 30 minute rides per day).

Would you want a rack outside your house/shop/office?

AFAIK, the spate of fires involving e-scooters is down to people buying them from dodgy people online rather than actual shops so not sure why these would catch fire charging. I can’t imagine TfL will be scouring eBay buying from randoms & presume TfL will be doing trials to make sure they’re as robust as possible.

I suppose that to TFL, it may be cheaper to introduce more bikes than to expand the scheme. Not sure what difference this would make in ridership if the bike docks aren't accessible to everyone. This is where Lime Bike eats them up and why they're so prevalent in South - you can ride one all the way to your doorstep as long as you live in the catchment area. Expanding the scheme is now fully down to funding from local councils... who frankly have better things to spend their little cash on. You do see new cycle hire points pop up mostly with S106 funding though.
And yes, the price of a new docking station is eye-watering!

Yet again a gesture that will benefit few in South London, yet we pay for! This Mayor just screws over Outer South London time and time again!

It’s so pointless and barely a saving. If these workers aren’t travelling into Central London from the suburbs on a Friday to go the office they sure as f**k aren’t going in for a drink or dinner. They’ll stay local or just stay at home. If they have to pay for childcare the three days they are in the office they definitely aren’t paying for an extra evening. Central London is a cesspit full of protesters and tourists.

I suspect the hope will be either get people back to the office more days a week or move some people from Tuesdays / Wednesdays / Thursday working to different days including Friday to balance the days. I think it will fail.

I think it will fail. I’d quit my job before I had to go back more than 3 days a week 😂. Jokes aside I cannot see it happening. I hate this myth, not that you’re perpetuating it, that just because you’re not in the office you don’t work as hard. I work harder and achieve just as much at home as I do in the office. But I like working at home Thursday/Friday, it’s a nice way to end the week.

I think you might be underestimating this, while probably not aimed at people out in the far ends people from places like Barking, Ilford, Edmonton, Catford etc are likely to go into Central London to party as its not a long trip and if you have friends scattered over London then Central London is the best place to meet. Khan does a lot of silly things, this is actually a good idea.

Much like the fare freeze it’s hardly anything for the average passenger but adds up as most lost revenue for TfL
