We don't always agree but on this I think you are spot on.
Things were much harder in the 80s and 90s but parents had to manage. If anything support should be given up to when children leave school otherwise when does it stop? do you then say a college leaver just starting a job should be supported with discount fares because of a low wage.
I also think TfL fares are far too cheap and again think people expect a lot compared to outside London. The fare has been £1.50 since 2015 without a increase! We have it too good in London and then complain when we don't get investment.
It is very cheap compared to the rest of the country, just people in London are in a bubble and do not seem to realise that. Go to many other country's and this sort of thing does not exist. As I have said previously return to the LEA bus passes so those hard off would get it paid for by the council. Sadly and it does pain me to say it but money spent of buses in the eyes of the government is no longer investment but simply a bail out that can't indefinitely last now. Whilst I agree with it the suspension of free travel before the peaks will bring in very little and upping fares to £1.60 wont either and will likely push the bus fare closer to tube fares particularly off peak. The investment comes in the tube which has seen massive growth and undoubtedly taking passengers off the road. Had it not been for the 2m rule which restricts numbers to 20 per DD I dont think the entire network would have returned and certainly lots of routes would have retained lower freqs possibly indefinitely.

Spicy 🌶🌶🌶 The straw man argument from ASLEF about TfL not having the funding for upgrades needed to make driverless trains possible was pretty laughable. As if ASLEF would ever be OK with the idea of driverless trains, even if the infrastructure was in place. My counter to the PM would be why is he calling for mass unemployment during a time when the economy is in severe decline with unemployment rising every day? We need people in employment, contributing to the economy and the HMRC during this time. I think Johnson is having fun with this. He knows Khan is very likely to be re-elected and being able to puppeteer a Labour MoL to push through something he wasn’t able to during his tenure is an opportunity he can’t resist, even if it adds to the unemployment rate.

Withdraw more bus route that TfL deem as "pointless" and have more routes merged.

It's a long time till any new orders will be placed for new trains as the Piccadilly line has already been placed which leaves just the Bakerloo line needing new ones. The Central and Waterloo & City will probably have to continue for much longer with their current trains dating from the 90s.

Whilst social distancing is in place then no cuts and be made due to only 20 allowed on a DD but after that who knows. I'd expect to hear that the 428 and 492 changes are going ahead as soon as a they can and possibly the Beckton changes aswell.

I don't know why Boris or anyone keep saying this as it is stupid. If the DLR still has strikes and it is driverless, then what difference would it make on the Underground. End of the day if you still have a member of staff on the train, to supervise doors emergencies etc. these people would then end up being targets for the unions to do the same thing.

I am not trying to be a devil’s advocate - but how do you feel about the automation of lines 1 and 14 in Paris? Absolutely no staff on the trains. The 1 is extremely busy - but it seems to cope ok without a driver?

London lags behind many other cities in terms of technological advancements on our transport network.

The Central and Waterloo & City will probably have to continue for much longer with their current trains dating from the 90s. The Bakerloo Line might not get new trains until it is extended to Lewisham - if that extension does still happen, that is. I think these will be the oldest trains anywhere in the country, even older than imminent class 484 for Isle of Wight, former D stock. If the Central Line gets new trains before the Bakerloo, I wonder whether 1992 stock would be transferred to the Bakerloo?

Lots of old trains getting upgrades including Piccadilly and Bakerloo fleets See pages 50-61 which lists the work content.tfl.gov.uk/pic-20072020-agenda-public.pdf
