Not wanting to spread rumours but I need to ask is it true that CrossRail may be taken off TfL?
If so who would operate it? Would it be a joint GWR/SE/GA effort?
How should this issue be resolved?

I doubt it. Seems unlikely they would do so much for it and all of a sudden just drop it. If you don't mind me asking, who told you this?

I couldn’t tell you it was something I read from the rail forum I guessed it was fake news or else everyone would know about it,

Honestly wouldn't surprise me. I wouldn't even be surprised to see the Mayor lose control of TfL altogether and a return to the 80s when central govt controlled LRT. Also came out of a power struggle between Tory central govt and devolved Labour administration in London (the GLC)

Honestly wouldn't surprise me. I wouldn't even be surprised to see the Mayor lose control of TfL altogether and a return to the 80s when central govt controlled LRT. Also came out of a power struggle between Tory central govt and devolved Labour administration in London (the GLC) I think this is already quietly happening. Khan has gone nuts with social distancing cones, even in his home town of Tooting, that it's causing serious problems. More money on cycle lanes in central London not being used as people are working from home. I thought they were testing out signalling and it was nearly done? If it's about one or two stations such as Bond Street not being completed, surely the trains could just not stop there and the line be opened up? I think there's also other issues, such as TfL keen to take over more lines in South London, when they have clearly got problems elsewhere to be contending with, such as near financial collapse and falling passenger numbers. Probably an easy way to keep TfL's wings clipped and under Johnson's eye after they were bailed out only this year.

So it looks like Crossrail may be mothballed unless more funding is provided. This really does make me wonder how many pockets have been lined up for this?
I mean come on I would have respected them a lot more if they openly said right at the beginning that the opening dates are not feasible. They originally said it would open in 2017, they then moved it to 2018. Then to 2020 and now they don't even know when it would open.
If this was another company and the project wasn't being delivered on time heads would roll off the chopping board.

It looks like Andy Byford is merely spelling out the consequences of not getting the funding and is proposing that the burden of the extra borrowing to fall on the London taxpayer via the GLA. He seems to be tying the cause to the future revenue generated by Crossrail for central government. The government have stated they are looking at a solution that ensures the burden of extra funding falls on Londoners, so from a distance it looks like there is alignment.

It's not being mothballed, trial running is going ahead as planned next year and indeed test runs have already taken place through the central tunnels. Funding is in place until the end of next year, it is new contracts going forward where the funding issue lies and negotiations between TfL and the Government are ongoing. The target is still to open in the first half of 2022, and could be sooner if trial running and trial operation (i.e. full service operating but no passengers) is successful.

The Government has agreed an additional loan of £825 million, to enable opening in 2022 and to avoid the project needing to be mothballed. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/dec/01/crossrail-government-loan-tfl-london-covid

Tottenham Court Road is also close, and Paddington has started the handover process. Custom House is already managed by TfL.

That was supposed to open late (when Crossrail was supposed to open in 2018) Bond Street is sufficiently far advanced to be included in the trial running and is expected to be completed this Summer, so highly unlikely it won't be ready when the line opens to the public.

Is there any way for the admin to merge this thread into the main Crossrail/Elizabeth Line conversation?https://tangytango.proboards.com/thread/10368/elizabeth-line
