So the St Peters Road bit of the 455 isn't being replaced? It seemed a pointless anyway with very few people using it and it just extended journey times for everyone else. And if the 166 does go via Christchurch Road (presumably so that it still serves Purley Hospital) will the 405 be rerouted that way I wonder? Presumably the problem is the left turn at both ends of the road as the 412 uses it? I think the 403 would have been a better candidate to take on St Peter's Road as it does link in to South Croydon Station with the justification being the 412 continuing to link into South End? Then, the 403 misses out the main South Croydon stops which are used from many previous experiences.

The St Peter's Road hardly added any time on at all, what it does is now leave South Croydon Station unserved by buses from the west and increase walking distance. What it needed was a better resited pair of bus stops opposite the cemetery. If the right length of route that didn't run into as many traffic problems was proposed to run along there, it wouldn't be an issue.

Yes and it would also speed up the 403 service, the old 403 Express went that way, and whilst it would stop a bit further from the local shops it would benefit more people than it would inconvenience. I think the only reason the 455 went that way was for commuters but most would go to East Croydon for a much better service. Ideally I think the 405 should be extended to East Croydon but no stand space there.

Certainly never had any funding.

Yes, but TfL in their response said they were hoping a bus terminal at East Croydon could be found during the station rebuild. Without it, can't see it happening.

One annoying thing with them announcing this now rather than a few weeks ago, is the 645 change and renumbering could have gone ahead from the new school year rather than at half term.

Though I agree on your point RE keeping the 403 as is the shops are to be fair only 5 minutes walk from the South Croydon Station stops on St Peter's Road.

I do hope that the X26 gets a frequency increase, it's always packed. Also wish it had a Feltham stop, as well as a Waddon one as mentioned.

There was something about a Beddington stop being requested by the local MP to be added about 13 years ago, TFL declined so I don't know whether they will add anymore.
However, having said that Acton Central (thank goodness) was added to the 607 as a stop however the not so good Iron Bridge was added I believe but I suspect that was only there for driver changeovers.
If you start adding more stops it becomes less of an express route. And having ridden the X140 before, it excels in that category, being limited stop is extremely useful.

I would like to see it increased to every 20 minutes with an hourly night service added but with no additional stops. I think in terms of stops the X26 is kind of perfect as there are enough routes connecting Feltham with Heathrow and Waddon/Beddington with Croydon. Too many stops and it would detract from the very idea of it being an express route.

Agree although TfL will probably do all they can not to fund a frequency increase on the X26 especially given they were reluctant to run the route in the first place
