Will probably require around 3 buses to run. Abellio, Go Ahead and Arriva could probably all the 3 existing buses for it. Abellio off the E5 and Arriva the 377. Not sure where Go-Ahead could source 3 9m buses from, unless they lose the 379. On second thoughts, if the 322 batch isn't redeployed, they could use that. I’m fully expecting GAL to use the ex-322 SE from day dot on the 470, so there will likely be 3 free when the PVR reduces with LOR swap with the S3 and the cutback to Sutton, presumably they will coincide with each other. We might get lucky and as an 61-reg SE as well, but only until the reroute.

That was my thinking that the 470 is going to need more buses to start with then the spares could go to either the 439 or S2. It should be noted thou that Abellio will probably need 2 or 3 extra buses for the S4 as the routes length is largely going to remain the same (Sutton to Waddon Marsh is probably about the same as St Helier to Roundshaw).

Abellio could have the edge if it intends to use the ex E5 MMCs, some of which are already likely candidates for the 404. They are younger than the GAL SE, although only just. The rest could easily be used for the 439. That would leave the S2 either as a GAL win at C or a RATP win at TV.

Any news on what date the 407 split will happen? Should be 2nd March 2024 when 455 gets withdrawn. That's also when the other changes will be happening.

Be interesting to see how and where they fit the 443 into the bus station as all bays seemed to be allocated lasted time I was there. Where 2 bays were allocated to a route they seemed needed.

With S2 following the current 470 and S4 routings, where does it pick 470’s routing from?

With S2 following the current 470 and S4 routings, where does it pick 470’s routing from? It will replace the 470 between Sutton Station and Epsom. Im not sure what length the S4 can take North of Sutton to St Helier Station but we know South of Sutton on the 470 can take 9.7m so not sure what length the S2 will use.

The 470 on the Sutton to Epsom stretch will take 10.2m, 10.8m if needed. The backroads south of Sutton are surprisingly wide and a lot of the houses have driveways so the roads are clear a lot of the time. The S4 section could take 10.2m, might need some minor alterations. The S4 already used some 9.3m vehicles.

So it's the Sutton to Roundshaw section that restricts it (atleast on paper) to 9m buses.
