Couldn't think of a more stupider thing to announce at a time when TfL needs all the money it gets. Cut buses but lets waste money of naming individual Overground lines that won't benefit anyone at all.

I think it could actually be a spin to make some more money, I wouldn't be surprised to see a competition with entrants charged a fee to have a submission. The London Overground is a weaving mess now, some identity needs to be given to the separate lines. Although if this scheme doesn't make money I don't think it should br a huge priority because as you mention TfL needs all the money it can get.

I can think of a few funky line names Highbury Islington - west Croydon / Crystal Palace / new cross: the underground overground Stratford - Richmond / Clapham junction: FordHam line Gospel oak - barking: GobLin (what else) Euston - Watford: the aboveground below underground overground Romford - Upminster: Shuttle McShuttleface Liverpool Street - Chingford: the Liver-Ford line Liverpool Street - Enfield / cheshunt: the Hunt-liver-field line

Goblins being mythical creatures as symbols of evil might not go down too well in some communities so it might be a good idea to dodge that bullet before it gets fired.

It will raise questions, and will probably confuse a lot of people. Should the South London Line be referred to as the South London Line or East London Line? Then will people confuse it with Southern? I've mentioned the issue with Goblin earlier on. Then Watford DC would be very weird, questions will turn up eventually as to what the DC is and it literally just means Direct Current which will probably be a bit of a weird name to have in widespread use.

My suggestions for the line names were strictly tongue-in-cheek

As far as I'm aware, people just refer to it as the Overground - I really don't think passengers will care about these names being in use, can't see why a passenger would be confused about the Watford branch being Watford DC, my mum has never asked me why the District or Circle have those names despite not being as obvious as the Hammersmith & City or Victoria Lines for instance.

Many people I know call it the Goblin (they may have gotten it from me though). I’m sure 4 people being offended won’t be a big deal.

Maybe the Gospel King line sounds better?

What about the cost of rebranding / painting everything in new colours? I do like Shuttle McShuttleface though What is with these stupid Mcface things, I really do not get it. Does it hark back to that stupid boaty Mcboatface thing a few years ago. Even that did not seem funny and pathetic.

If anything revert back to the British Rail line names i.e North London line etc.

Goblin was used by commuters in the early 90's IIRC, this was down to the extemely terrible service the line had in late 80's and early 90's with those horrible 2 carriage diesel trains. They then set up a successful presure group and called it Goblin due to the terrible service iirc.

Wasn’t there a similar story with the Watford DC line being called the Harlequin line (and its negative connotations?)
