I believe the only time Polls have actually predicted the completely wrong result as the John Major victory of 1992, and that was only because it fell in the margin of error. Since then they've been fairly correct and especially GLA ones have been relatively accurate. It'll take an extremely unlikely series of events for every single poll here to be wrong. It's really funny that the 1992 exit poll always gets mentioned as the 1987 one was actually far worse. Whilst it did foreshadow a third successive Conservative victory, it only predicted a majority of 26 when in reality they achieved a 104 majority. I assume the 92 blunder is more infamous however as it didn't predict an outright win when in reality they remained in power with a majority of 21 or so. I was shocked at 92' as I did not want John Major to win. One also wonder if he did get a job with LT as a conductor, would he have gone all the way to number 10

Nothing more than a gimmick. Just do not understand, TfL are in the red, you are doing things to gain back money, then backtrack on the decision.

The mayor, regardless of who it is, needs to be proactive towards looking at the root causes of these murders whether it is environmental, upbringing whatever and not just reactive with rhetoric blaming everyone else for their own failings. The mayor as the de facto head of policing in London is responsible and that is just fact. I think it's a sticky one, while the mayor is indeed charge of policing in London, his resources are provided by the Home Office and Home Secretary so he's limited in what he can do. Obviously an opposing party in government means that the mayor and Home Secretary will pretty much always be at odds over who's fault this is. The issue in a lot of East London anyway is the postcode wars which started in the 2000s when Ken and Boris were the mayors, I think the increased use of social media has obviously brought a lot more of these to light now. Goodness knows how many murders are actually covered up before anyone realises, there's probably many shallow graves in places like Epping Forest where evidence has been hidden. Then many stabbings actually have the person never actually seek medical help and die on their own, and it doesn't go down as a stabbing but rather a natural death. The clear reason for a lot of these crimes is poverty, the young children can't keep themselves occupied at home due to it being a poor environment, they end up on the streets and then end up in a gang. If you sort out high poverty levels then you will sort out crime. The issue here is that London being the city it is means that if you help one group, another group move in because people are always moving to the city in hope of job opportunities. No matter where you plant a police officer, there will be somewhere without a police officer and these are where the crimes will take place. It's the sad reality we live in and is ultimately caused by the people in Westminster as opposed to City Hall. Best course of action would be to obviously vote the Tories out at the next election so that the mayoralty and government are both of the same party. Although it's probably a case of already preaching to the converted in the case of London (obviously I understand not everyone here may be a Labour supporter, but the city is predominantly a Labour heartland). The so called post code wars was a thing from the States (area codes) this was rampant in the 80's and 90's. We had the problem over here in the early 2000's with a lot of stabbings and shootings, but it did go down around 2006. Rose back up around the time of the London riots, then went back down after. It has reared its ugly head again around a year after Khan came in and only went down when covid took hold. Now it is going back again to total madness. Other parts of the country has its problems, but serious violent crime in London is getting worse and part of it is also down to the mayor. It is all about your priorities and how you want to spend your budget; the home office does not dictate that. To says most of this crime is down to poverty is an insult to be honest. There are plenty of places in the world and even in this country where poverty is rife, but does not mean people are committing crimes or even worse killing people. These places also have gangs. One thing that has caused a major problem is class A drugs like crack and cocaine which is what is fuelling these gangs. A lot of these gangs are well down in the pile doing the dirty work for rich businessmen who are in some ways untouchable.

Nice stuff. As with the post-War era, when we had the Festival of Britain and so forth, we need a bit of energy and vision like that. This is a good pledge. Sadiq is getting my vote for sure. Shaun Bailey would be a complete disaster.

Shaun Bailey would be a complete disaster. It would take more than simply staging another Olympics for him to get my vote, much rather an independent gets my vote regardless of their chances. I agree on Bailey though.

Shaun Bailey would be a complete disaster. I wonder if you would say the same thing if the pledge came from a Conservative party MP? 🤔 This is a nice idea, given the infrastructure already exists in London. Costs will be minimised to refurbishment and therefore a future London games in Stratford has the opportunity to be profitable. In addition Crossrail will be running by 2036 (we hope LOL). Given the additional infrastructure we will already have in place, I’m not sure why the Bakerloo line and Crossrail 2 are being tagged on, except to get our shelved projects back on the roadmap. Selfishly, I would love to attend another Olympics in London. Might even be a catalyst to get the London entertainment resort built along with associated Elizabeth Line and river bus infrastructure. From a UK perspective, I would like to see the games hosted in a different city such as Manchester or Birmingham. This will spark investment in other areas of the country that is so desperately needed. A Manchester bid in particular would be a great catalyst for HS2 and cross-pennine investment. A more northern location would make the games more accessible to wider swathes of the UK. The large flows of people from the South East to a more northern olympics would ensure that public transport links in the home counties would not miss out on infrastructure investment. To your other point, I agree Bailey would be a terrible MOL, his policies seem made up on the back of a napkin - and like Khan he overly politicises everything. Khan is extremely fortunate that there isn’t any strong opposition standing against him. I can’t vote for Khan, nor Bailey. If I really had to choose between the two, I would probably opt for Bailey just for the sake of change, but that would be more of a protest vote against Khan rather than an endorsement of Bailey. I can’t recall such a poor choice of MOL candidates. Right now the risk of COVID transmission outweighs the benefit of going out specifically to vote for any candidate on the ballot. Well, apart from Count Binface....

Well, apart from Count Binface.... If a Tory MP suggested it, yes I'd still agree. But they aren't, which is telling. I too would rather see the Olympics in Manchester or Birmingham but it would be great for the whole UK plc if held in London

Shaun Bailey would be a complete disaster. Speaking as a generally Conservative voter, yes Shaun Bailey probably would be a disaster but no more of a disaster than Khan has proved to be. The cynic in me rather thinks that the position of London Mayor might not be long for this world. I can’t think of any other reason for London to be inflicted with such a poor selection of choices for Mayor And Khan is living in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks London will get the Olympics so soon after 2012. I absolutely loved having the Games on my doorstep but it was tinged with sadness because there’s little to no chance of the Games returning in my lifetime

Birmingham’s hosting the Commonwealth Games next year... if it goes well it will have a huge impact on how people view the city and will give it a massive boost just like Manchester in ‘02

Shaun Bailey would be a complete disaster. Given Khan's first term, I doubt even Count Binface first term would be classified as a disaster in comparison.
