I’m surprised too about Kent , it really does seem to be affected post covid , more so than other regions. Which is surprising, because the South East is one of the most populated areas.
Bus services in Kent and Sussex really are being cut heavily.
I remember the number 5 in Hawkhurst, it’s the only route that goes to Cranbrook and Maidstone isn’t it?
Did it go from Sandhurst to Maidstone then ?
Which depot is the 5 operates from? And how is Arriva getting away with so many cuts? Because there’s no other operator?

The process of finding someone to replace Arriva is well under way. Personally, I can see Arriva pulling out of Dartford/Gravesend entirely. It’s yet another area that I don’t think they are bothered about. I might have considered it ripe territory for Stagecoach to supplement their East Kent operation. However even they are retrenching in Kent too.

Arriva have of course replaced few buses outside London in recent years. I enjoyed a tour of Derby & Leicester yesterday mainly for the old buses in the area. In Derby I was able to ride a Volvo B9TL-Gemini and Scania Omnilink. In Leicester I was able to ride a VDL-Gemini double-deck (with dark blue leather seats) and Volvo B9TL-Olympus. All these types are rare for Arriva.
I did ride MMC E400 and E200, also a Solo for convenience. I avoided more commonplace vehicle types E400, Pulsar saloon and Streetlite.
On an unrelated note, I rode my first Wrightbus GBKite, with First Leicester.

It had a moquette I had not seen before but still elegant. Mind you, despite the notice at Haymarket Bus Station listing route 17 as one guaranteed electric buses, they were mainly if not entirely spread over different routes instead. Due to the report on the Metrobus thread about others coming over the next 18 months, I may wait for most if not all the others to enter service before heading there (and combining the trip with some E400s - presumably E400ERs - for Brighton & Hove).

It is quite refreshing having so much opportunity to ride older buses with Arriva now. The vast majority outside London are at least 8-10 years old now. How long they last allowing for maintenance issues is another matter of course.

What’s this new 470 business? More incomplete information from Arriva, which is not a surprise 🙄

They recently announced some changes for Maidstone routes where I currently live but none of the links to the incoming timetables worked. they just took you to the old outgoing timetable.
