I see. So the 480 serves Dartford as usual, the 490 serves Bluewater, equally as usual, and the 470 serves both.

Serious incident in Gravesend

Serious incident in Gravesend Fair play to Arriva having some backbone to do the - controversial, but right thing. This is becoming an issue in some parts of London again, namely on the 64 route through Fieldway Estate - and the exact same course of action should apply imo. Absolutely shocking stuff - but shows what 13 years of the government defunding the police, defunding prisons, defunding the CPS as well as youth and social services does.

And these problems in parts of London would all have nothing to do with the mayor of course? Anyway politics aside, New Addington has suffered these problems to varying degrees for decades although I think the onset of CCTV has gone some way to reducing such behaviour.

I believe some time recently the 203 was diverted away from some point of its line of route for similar issues. So yes, very sensible approach.
As for your last point, I couldn't agree more.

This is a big failing of devolution. Policing in London is devolved. Central Government blame on the body it has devolved responsibility. The devolved body blames central government. As such neither takes it upon themselves the fix anything and just blames the other. This why London would be better without a Mayor, then there would be no argument about who was to blame. Devolution is just a passing the buck mechanism. Both sides have to take their fair share of the blame over policing in London. Then problem is not one sided. If we are going to continue policing in this model, the Met needs to be split into a force concentrated on the national issues (maybe Police UK/England) and a separate force for policing London. Then there is not any ambiguity about who is to blame when things go wrong. Central government form the former, GLA for the latter. Incidentally we spend more on policing as a % of GDP than France, Germany, Japan and Australia, so is it really underfunded, or run inefficiently? Don't worry Labour will be in in 2024, then they can show us how they will fund everything properly. I wait with baited breath. **Edit** To add a bit of context to the last paragraph, there were 7 countries in the table I referenced, and Holland & US where the other two, and they spent a larger % on policing.

Agree with what you say however Holland isn’t a country, it’s a province within The Netherlands.

Think our friendly mayor must take a fair share of the blame as well. Near my previous place at crossharbour there have now been 3 fatal stabbings and 2 acid attacks in the space of 3 years - all in broad daylight. In fact one of the stabbings would have happened right in front of me had I not for some inexplicable reason decided to take a longer walking route. Policing has been very low priority while all the time has been spent on fancy photo-opps Petty crime is up. I was in plumstead today and had parked on garibaldi (just before the junction with abery street) as the baby was crying. A person brazenly walked up to a parked car barely 100m away on the opposite side of the road (so I was in plain sight), threw a brick through the window and proceeded to steal something (blue badge?) and ram away! This was in broad daylight with people nearby - absolutely no fear whatsoever!

Agree with what you say however Holland isn’t a country, it’s a province within The Netherlands. It’s two provinces, to be pedantic - North and South Holland. I’m just back from the Netherlands coincidentally, and to tug this thread back on topic, the South Holland town of Gouda’s bus network is operated by Arriva, using VDL Citeas in far better condition than the buses in many UK Arriva subsidiaries!

There is to be an announcement apparently on the 23rd of September regarding the Arriva Bucks business; the rumour mill has it that First and Go-Ahead are involved..

Bases at High Wycombe , Hemel , Aylesbury … any others ? Interesting. I can certainly envisage a scenario where Go Ahead would be interested in the Kent network.

Why not a Saturday? It may be that any deal is completed by close of business on Friday and Saturday is just an announcement
