From July 29th the long standing arrangement of the 171 using the forecourt at Catford Garage will cease and officially buses will run out of service to Downham Way Old Bromley Road to turn around and then take stand time on Bromley Road outside the garage. In practice many drivers will probably just do a U-turn outside the garage as often happens now. Drivers on the 171 will still be able to use the toilet facilities at TL.

Additional running time is going to be added for this I believe. Doing unofficial U turns and anything happens it is down to the driver. When we ran the 660 officially Downham was the turn around point and in the end most driver just started using the Garage because the 171 was using it.. This arrangement will also be permanent and yes it is because of the Electrification for the 199/N199.

Suggests very much that there will probably be chargers placed in the stand area, the 173s at the moment have charging breaks towards the evening so I imagine the 199 might be following suit. Would I be right in saying the 171s will be turning around using the side roads around Iceland? That's a huge dead run out of service and if buses are going to run that far I'm surprised they're not running them all the way in service. They might as well make whatever revenue they can. They may need to even add a bus to the PVR or two, I think in reality a few may U turn, however they probably can't rely on that and traffic down there can be monstrous.

Unlikely a permanent extension would happen the contract expires in 2025. I would not be surprised if Stagecoach win the route themselves now which would pretty much remove all of that light running.

The fact of the Diesels going is truly sad but a Hybrid MMC will have to do on the 47.

I used to dislike using Bendy buses with passion however does not mean I would wait forever just because I do not wish to get on one.

So if you needed to go somewhere and your only way of reaching there was an electric 199, would you rather walk just to avoid a type of bus?

Tbh with you I would just take an Electric if needed but with LTs it is a no way whatever happens, I would walk if possible or use an Uber worst case scenario. Bear in mind the whole network across cities are going Electric (Globally, not just London) so sooner rather than later I will need to use them whether I like or not. The way I look at it atm, if there is the option of using a Diesel or Hybrid why not utilise as they are reaching the end of the road.

My main reason is cos I do not think EV is the future and the hassle of converting garages so forth. As known I am a major Diesel fan but at least with Hybrid digging up garages is not needed.

To be honest I have no interest. Many of us have particular views but do not make it so plastered up in threads changing the subjects. This thread is about the 171.

Ubers are very expensive and walking for long distances isn't very time beneficial!

"yunus" must be a millionaire with that sort of approach to travel arrangements and taking Ubers! 😂🧐 Mind you I'm a walking fan. Often will allow a bit more time if possible and walk it instead of a bus or a train, especially in good weather.

I've often thought that it would be more useful for the 171 to follow the N171 to Hither Green instead. It seems daft to run all the way to Downham and back out of service, so I wouldn't be surprised if it fell back to Catford Town Centre eventually.
