So you can get free travel up to the age of 18 on TFL services now? Yes. In fact until your are 18 years and 364 days old. Hence why school routes potentially don't take any revenue at all and why I think TFL should now look at some of the routes where surrounding routes have improved. Take the 613. Was created when the 80 was every 12 mins with SDs, the 151 was every 20 mins to Worcester Park with SDs and the 726 a non starter. Now the 80 is every 8 with DDs, the 151 every 10 and SL7 every 15 mins all with DDs and it doesn't cost kids to have to change buses in Sutton like in the past. Same with the 627 and the previous 4 SDs an hour on the 127 and 407. Both are now DD every 10 and 12 mins respectively. If you live in London it expires 30 SEP the year after your 18th birthday, so technically some can use it when 19, other expires whilst 18. If you live out of London, it expires the day before your 18th birthday. tfl.gov.uk/fares/free-and-discounted-travel/16-plus-zip-oyster-photocard

Is the free bus travel thing because anyone under 18 you cannot enforce revenue protection? I believe under 18 you cannot give a penalty fare to?
A couple of post back someone said that school buses you do not generate any revenuw, which I understand and agree with. But could this be flipped and say that any bus leaving North Greenwich bus station collects no revenue or very minimal?

In my opinion a full review of school routes across London is needed, many of the existing school routes don't have much use anymore whilst other areas need more capacity at school times. The PVR saved from altering school routes could even be redistributed into improving normal routes in the same areas, for example if the 613 was binned off and one bus was removed from the 627's PVR, then the 2 buses saved could be added to the 213 to allow it to be increased back to 6bph (obviously driver and fuel/electricity costs will be higher but the biggest cost of operating bus services are the actual buses themselves).

I like your idea in principle about investing the money back into the areas which lose that school route but we all know the money will just go to Outer London areas - for example, if the 690 is removed, something I've partially asked for in the sense of reverting it into a regular route as it's wasted personally as a school route, how likely would it be that Lambeth & Wandsworth would get that money when many routes have had PVR's, frequencies and entire sections or whole routes withdrawn with almost nothing coming back in return?

Yes if the 690 was withdrawn then I'd imagine TFL would just decide it could be left to the 2/415/432/35/37/155/249/G1 with possibly a school route from Burntwood to Clapham Common to relieve the G1 But I do think school routes could be scaled back and the money redistributed where they have been big improvements on parallel day routes like the 80, 127, 151, 407 etc since 2000.
