As far as I'm aware Labour only actually gained 1 extra seat in London which is quite surprising really. Most were all returns to Lib dems such as Sutton etc. They gained Chipping Barnet, Finchley and Golders Green, Cities of London and Westminster, Chelsea and Fulham, Eltham and Chislehurst, Uxbridge and South Ruislip & Bexleyheath and Crawford whilst only losing Islington North. Labour made a net gain of 6 seats in London. I thought they would have got more in London, I think some of the seats did not change as expected due to issues around Palestine. A lot of viral social media messages were going around telling Muslim voters to not vote certain MP's who were not supportive of Palestine. Havering did not seem to have changed as some on here was saying would have happened. Also I am glad that pathetic idiot David Lammy lost a lot of his vote share over the Palestine crisis. This guy only does things that suits himself and when people try to get him to do things, he turns a blind eye.

I am not a big Labour fan but I did vote for them on this occasion as we needed a change. The country is in a mess and the Conservatives took us all for mugs over the last few years especially after 2020.
I am not expecting a overnight miracle but I am willing to give them a chance. I just hope Sadiq Khan don't become even more smug.

Unsurprisingly, but thankfully the Tories seem to have been handed a resounding defeat, even worse than what the exit poll predicted. It will be good to see Labour take power once again, but one thing today has taught everyone is that even the strongest majorities can fall apart within just one term. I'm largely expecting the Starmer cabinet to mirror the Shadow Cabinet, but we'll know for certain later today. There will be no Jonathan Ashworth, former shadow Paymaster General who lost his seat (Leicester South) overnight.

Yes. that's the word: her concession speech was 'gracious'. Apparently, she has offered the new MP assistance and a full handover.

I also note there have been other Labour casualties and a number of close-calls in constituencies with large numbers of Muslim voters. Labour now has to work hard to regain the trust of Muslim communities. It's not an impossible ask as they have completely turned round their relationship with Jewish communities. Thankfully George Galloway lost Rochdale to Labour so that is one thorn in the side gone.

I can’t wait to watch what happens with the election tonight. I just have a feeling many things are going to happen tonight which are utterly unprecedented …such as one of our more prolific forum members becoming an MP, maybe? 😉 Not this time. East Surrey resultsConservative,Votes 17,502

I've just been looking at the election results for the South West. The Conservatives now hold just four seats in Devon, one in Somerset, two in Dorset - and have lost all seven seats in Cornwall.
Bournemouth and Poole both have Labour MPs - I never thought I would see that!

Well done the Greens for winning all four of their target seats (even if it does mean we lose Thangam Debbonaire as a Bristol MP). I wonder how well they could have done had they been able to field candidates in more seats?
They are becoming a force to be reckoned with and will certainly keep Labour on their toes, especially if they can work collaboratively on issues with the sizeable Lib-Dem cohort.

So here's a little tidbit that may interest political and/or Geography anoraks.
You can now walk/cycle/drive from the south side of Kew Bridge in Richmond Park constituency, via Twickenham, Esher & Walton, Kingston and Surbiton, Epsom and Ewell, Dorking and Horley, Horsham, Mid Sussex, Lewes and to Eastbourne Pier in Eastbourne constituency and never leave a LibDem constituency...
...but even more extraordinary you could head out of Eastbourne and travel all the way to Ilfracombe in North Devon constituency and provided you're happy to take a slightly indirect routing via Oxfordshire never leave a LibDem constituency..

Evidenced by LAB gains in Chipping Barnet and Finchley & Golders Green.
