Well folks next Tuesday it is when the US electoral college comes together to elect a new President.
Well I am all for team Mrs Harris, but after many recounts and more lawsuits and then more lawsuits, it looks like I’m going to end up disappointed and we are going to end up with 4 more years of lies and conspiracy theories, it pains me to say it, but I think Trump will just get over the line in most of the several swing (purple) states.
What happens in America ultimately affects us all, as they say when America sneezes, the world catches…………………
Maybe the moderators might consider putting a poll up, like we did with the UK election?
I’m off next week, so will be up all night on Tuesday watching CNN, I love all the machinations of politics, even when it goes against me.

Well that was disapointing. Another 4 years of Trump. Labour publicly sending people to campaign against him is not looking like a great move now!

I'm convinced America is not a real place at all (I'm saying this for comedic purposes). How they're letting a man who's been on trial for fraud back into the White House is astonishing.
Hopefully we don't get another repeat of what happened on January 6th 2021

Labour did not 'send' anyone - people passionate about politics, who support Labour chose to go to USA in their own personal time to support a political effort they supported. Some Tories were also out there campaigning for both Harris and Trump, as was the Reform leader (a sitting MP no less) campaigning for Trump.

We should have just kept out of another countries elections, that applies to all ... we have to work with who ever wins ... so these weren't members of the Labour Party, who probably have created an problem for US/UK realationships. Those not in power are a bit inconsequential, compared to parts of the ruling party ... but none should have got involved. A ruling party has greater responsibilities. Comparing that to a inconsequential party with 4 MPs is laughable.

I was not expecting to get up this morning and see Trump giving a victory speech and then going off stage to YMCA playing.
I dread to think what the next 4 years will be like.

Trump wins, the world still spins. Both sides were full of lies and flaws. It was just a case of who told the most effective lies and who had the least concerning flaws among the voters.
Trump will be good for the American economy. Will be interesting to see if and how he gets involved in the middle east and Russia/Ukraine disputes.
The amount of lefty crying and lying this morning is nauseating. At least they won’t storm Capitol Hill though 😉

Not to mention that it was Labours own head of operations at party HQ that was appealing for campaigners with the promise to pay for their housing whilst there. Her own message mentions current staff were going out there. Volunteers in their spare time my arse.

The lefties are right to be dismayed. I may sit on the right of the fence but American conservatism is far too extreme to be good for any economy.

In all honesty the 2016 win showed the fault of the electoral college, you could very well say Trump won on a technicality and it wasn't the will of the people. This time however it was the will of the people. The Americans spoke, seem to have spoken some interesting stuff but have spoken nonetheless. They made their bed for at least the next 2 years until the other run of Senate elections, and very well 4 years until the end of Trump's term. They can now lie in it.

Same thing happened to Al Gore in 2000, he won the popular vote but lost on the electoral college vote. But either way the electoral college is a joke of a system and only the will of the people should matter. It effectively renders the general public vote useless if the college voters don’t agree with their states popular vote. But you’re right, those Americans who voted for the Trump abomination deserve everything they get.

People said the same in 2016 and was it really that bad? The key difference is we know what Trump is truly capable of now. So whilst the previous stint was relatively new territory and full of surprise this one will no doubt be just as draining on the global community as it will be Americans. I won’t be planning to visit in the next few years, not under Trump.

It's essentially the same as the FPTP system in the UK, in that votes are only effective to the national outcome if conducted in the right place, ie a swing state or seat. Although of course, there has only been two post-war examples of a party winning more votes than seats in UK (1951 and Feb 1974)
