Seeing as TfL haven’t bothered to put any travel details for the London Marathon on their website, does anyone know if bus travel for runners in the morning is free again, as in previous years? I will be using the 89 to get to the start. Thanks. I don't know and the lack of travel details really is appalling but on a similar theme both the Oxford Tube and the X90 are offering free travel for marathon runners. Oh and good luck!

Route 161 show just chislehurst on stagecoach. Before takeover, go ahead show chislehurst war memorial. I don't know why? I noticed this, possibly it's because the War Memorial isn't too far from the High Street part of Chislehurst? I hate unspecfic blinds myself.

Just saw YJ65 EOV (I think?), a Metrocity, on the 236. I didn't expect to see that today!

Its an electric bus probably on test for the infrastructure and route performance

Just curious if there’s a procedure if the oyster reader on a bus doesn’t work, should be taken out of service? In the last couple of weeks, I’ve been out 2 different trunk routes where the reader didn’t work and me and other passengers got a free ride. Both routes continued to do more than one rounder so we are talking about hundreds of passengers getting a free journey

It does seem to happen quite a bit though and a considerable amount of revenue must be lost.

In the last couple of weeks, I’ve been out 2 different trunk routes where the reader didn’t work and me and other passengers got a free ride. Both routes continued to do more than one rounder so we are talking about hundreds of passengers getting a free journey I expect it boils down to whether operators have another bus available with working equipment and the practicality of effecting a changeover. I doubt very much that operators are under an absolute obligation to swap vehicles over immediately (or close to immediately) when we are talking about TfL supplied equipment. It will be a "reasonable endeavours" obligation and I am sure operators have well rehearsed positions to justify a bus doing a couple of rounders on a route where the garage may be remote from the route. TfL publish the performance information for the ticketing system - bus reader performance looks to be pretty decent to me. LU ticket machines and gates fare worse. content.tfl.gov.uk/tfl-ticket-system-performance-2017-18-periods-7-8-9-10.pdfIt is also worth remembering that not everyone gets a free ride. A lot of people will be on a concessionary pass or a Travelcard or Bus / Tram Pass or will have had a "free" ride due to the Hopper or daily capping. Obviously some people do get a free ride and that's where the incentive is on TfL and its suppliers to ensure the ticketing equipment is as reliable as possible. I know that TfL have taken action against Cubic to improve the operation and stability of the bus readers in the past. They do seem (to me) to be more reliable with fewer misreads than in the past. Apropos not much at all I was quite surprised to see, on my 123 ride home yesterday, that more than 50% of the people boarding used a contactless bank card or a smartphone to pay for their trip. I was downstairs at the front (on a DW) so could see how people paid. For a long while Oyster / Freedom Passes have been the majority payment type on suburban trips. I am sure it's a bit different on Zone 1 routes.

The operator i work for says drivers must report the defect as soon as possible because TfL can give fines, the company will try to sub it within a rounder.

The driver of E56 let me travel free 😊 Anyway how was the Marathon today Hot. Properly hot. Utterly unsuitable conditions to run such a race, but I got round in 6:39:55, which in those conditions I will take all day long. Atmosphere was as always brilliant, and I’ll look to giving it another go in 2020 or 2021, depending on itinerary and life in general. 😊 Thank you for asking 😊
