I was reading the Paper this evening and thought this would be interesting to bring up. I also read a Link which is below the newspaper. It talks about Proposed Trolleybuses from Marble Arch - Tottenham Court Road replacing the London Buses on Oxford Street. That's the Scanned Image. Now I personally think that's ridiculous! Passengers will have to interchange just to go via Oxford Street . You won't be able to get anywhere but Marble Arch - Tottenham Court Road. This whole Trolleybus will be a waste simply because millions of wasted money will be invested into it and of course from the Tax payer! And of Course the NB4L is in one of the images ;D. I would like to know where all those buses currently serving Oxford Street will be rerouted There is an idea about banning traffic on Oxford Street execpt buses and I think that's a better idea. www.standard.co.uk/news/transport/back-to-the-future-trolleybuses-could-make-a-return-to-londons-streets-8423181.html

You shouldn't really trust what the Evening Standard, they fabricate a lot of stories and over exaggerate on everything.

Why don't TFL put their own vanity idea onto their own site. consultations.tfl.gov.uk/best to put out signs for traffic to detour them away Oxford Circus. Make the area hail and ride (yes i already said that on the NB4L thread) I will approve the wall of red buses. But please dont enforce jaywalking laws!

Hail And ride you want? well try sitting on a bus that gets flagged down every centimetre or someone wants to get off. in around 2 hours, you'd still probably be on oxford street!

Well if the commuter wants to go to Marble Arch from Oxford Street, they can simply take the Central Line train. but by doing that, you're encouraging more passengers to pay higher fares which some cant and some dont want to do and pack onto already full capacity trains, again something some cant do and some dont want to do. The underground and Oxford street as well as other roads served by bus routes near oxford street are just going to come to a halt causing severe overcrowding and traffic as if there isnt already enough of those 2

This is one of the reason why I dislike hail & ride sections. The 470 is a pure example that d*mn route has 3 of the buggers. On the topic though I don't think Tfl could do anymore to make Oxford Street more flow through then it is. To me Oxford Circus will always be packed even if you ban traffic and just make it buses only when coming into Oxford Street.

Well it is just businesses that paid a fortune to have their own retail store on Oxford Street, so thats why it is a shopping area.
But thanks for bringing my attention that Hail and ride will be a disaster if it happened. So i would have bus routes to divert away from Oxford Circus and have the ibus telling passengers to alight there for Oxford Circus.
But putting trams back in Central London would be a disaster in the modern day. But it will be the same problem as what the bendy bus have. So having trolley buses would be a good idea but as long it will be an area where they used to run. But it will be interesting if it came back in a form of an NB4L as trolleybuses in london traditionally had an open platform.

It's no good banning other traffic from using Oxford Street because the vast majority of vehicles on Oxford Street are buses. Few people use it to cut through because of the red wall of buses and also the traffic light timings. I think the only way to solve it and would probably only be slightly is just cut the routes along Oxford Street to 8 routes - one from each direction (N, S, E, W, NE, NW, SE, SW). Others would have to be curtailed at Marble Arch or Oxford Circus.
'david21' - every paper does that, your only saying it because of the story of Metroline's maintenance standards. If it printed a glowing report about them, your tune would change.

I personally think the problem with the queue of buses is even greater between tottenham court road and oxford circus. I remember diverting via this section as regent street was closed. It was almost impossible to overtake a bus that was serving a bus stop. Maybe if they got rid of the many traffic lights there and especially the ones that were situated in the middle of the road.
It wasn't such a problem when driving between oxford circus and marble arch as there were many lay-by bus stops.
In saying that, you do get the queue of buses at oxford circus but thats because they can't make the right turn from oxford street into regent street which is due to the many buses trying to serve that one stop opposite the apple store. How about moving the bus stop further down or what about replacing the carriageway which encourages jay-walking.
And while im at it, it would have been nice for someone to enforce the black cabs from stopping at junctions and doing unexpecting u-turns. This happens alot in oxford circus which causes considerable bottlenecks.

Routes 6, 7, 13, 23, 73, 94, 137, 139, 159, N7, N73, N98, N207 remain the same serving the Oxford Street from Marble Arch - Oxford Circus Route 390 curtailed to Tottenham Court Road. Route 10 diverted via Portman Street. The 10 and 73 meet at Marble Arch - Kings Cross no need for two overlapping routes. Route 436 extended to Paddington Basin. Route 137 diverted to Holborn Route 159 diverted to Extended to Notting Hill Gate Route 98 diverted to Lancaster Gate. N98 left alone.

This may reduce links but the way I see it is.
3 links to Paddington is not required. The 390 does not need to serve Notting Hill Gate when the 159 can provide that link when it already serves Oxford Street, the 12 once provided that link, so why can't the 159 do it effectively replacing a link. Extending the 159 to Paddington Basin was a waste because the 436 can easily do it.
98 IMO does not need to go to Holborn. The current 10 is a copy of the 73 from Marble arch onwards. 137 replace the 98 effectively reducing the 98 and replacing it.

Hail and ride in Oxford Street is the most stupid thing I have heard, sorry! are there not enough bus stops on oxford street already? and alot of people walk the whole length of oxford street anyway.
