Not required as the 202 also Serves Lower Sydenham, but not Sainsbury's which is good enough. The 202 is a better candidate than the 181, plus the the 181 cannot take double deckers. The 181 & 202 are both the main links to Catford from Lower Sydenham, not just the 181. I think 181 can take double deckers as Orpington's OmniCities and OmniDekkas are blinded for it. Metrobus include all routes on the blinds of their deckers - 138, 146 & R8 are on the blinds despite the Omnidekkas never running the routes. There is a low bridge on the 181 at Lower Sydenham just beyond the end of Bell Green.

I know there are overhanging trees that would probably preclude it now, but wouldn't it be nice to see a rogue double decker on route 146 *reminisces about RTs and Routemasters on the 146*

Just a mad idea on my part so no need for anyone to get excited . Would probably be a very popular operation if it was to done.

What about extending a Bus Route from Crystal Palace to Lower Sydenham e.g: 417,322, Via the 202 way because there is no links to places like Clapham to that area May as well extend the 417 all the way to Lewisham. The 75 could return to Blackheath and withdraw the 202. The 181 could use double deckers on the Catford to Lewisham section (I don't know if it ever has?) but the low bridge at Lower Sydenham prevents them going to Downham.

withdrawing the 202 would be ridiculous
Extending the 75 would be a bad idea becuase of loads of traffic at Hogarth Cresent and before Catford Bridge
181 using DD's would be pointless between catford and lewisham

The 75 is a well used like between Lewisham & Croydon. 417 to Lewisham, I had to laugh at this, this is possibly the worst extension idea. Via Catford well tbh the route would be even worse than the 202, coming from Clapham Common as far as that. The 202 can just about cope at times, but the 417.

its better if 417 gets extended to Lower Sydenham via 202 It will be the only link to SW from Sydenham
It would be funny if someone suggested to extend the 57 from Clapham Park to Sydenham

Personally, I'd rather extend the 322 via the 450 to Lower Sydenham and divert the 450 to Loughborough Junction via College Road, Dulwich Wood Park, South Croxted Road, Park Hall Road, Rosendale Road, Norwood Road, Herne Hill & Milkwood Road. I'd also divert the 322 in West Norwood away from the narrow back roads via the full length of Gypsy Road & the West Norwood one way system with the 315 taking over the 322 from Robson Road to Gypsy Road. The 315 would also take over the Fountain Drive section of the 450 and terminate at Crystal Palace.

Well hang on, first you say the 202 was the worst idea ever but then the 417 is, do you have to be so dismissive of what people put forward? The Mid Kent line to Elmers End and Tramlink is a far quicker route from Lewisham to Croydon, oh I'd also extend the 54 back to Croydon if thats ok with you? There is clearly a need for more east/west links, extending the 249 to Lewisham instead would be another option...........or would that be an even worse idea?

40 to Crystal Palace
Or
12 to Crystal Palace using more or less the same pvr but with reduced frequency (route appearantly is over bussed anyway)
Either route would create a direct link between Crystal Palace and Camberwell Green

Besides the 202 is quite pouplar so there is no need to withdraw it It would obviously be replaced by other routes IMO all routes serving Catford via Perry Hill & Stanstead road should remain as they are as they have good timetables. Replacing the 202 is stupid, extending the 54 or 75 anywhere is not required.
