If you had the opportunity what two brand new routes would you invent to add to the TfL bus network and why would you add them? In your answer give the terminals and indicative routing plus suggested vehicle type and basic frequency. The routes have to be brand new and not a tweak or an extension to an existing route. It can be anything from a short midibus route to a new trunk or orbital service. Please try to keep the answers relatively sane. My two starters for ten would be Edmonton Green - T Hale - Stamford Hill - Clapton - Hackney - Olympic Park - Stratford using double decks about every 15 mins. Edmonton IKEA - Hall Lane - Billet Sainsburys - Wadham Road - Hale End Road - Wood Street - Whipps Cross H - Leytonstone Stn - Bush Rd - Overton Drive - Langley Drive - Redbridge Lane W - Wanstead Green / Stn - Wanstead using narrow bodied minibuses about every 30 mins. The first route is designed to relieve the 192 and create new, direct links from Tottenham to Hackney and the developments at Stratford. The second route is a network infill service to give new links to shops, stations and hospitals and to give the area south of the A12 at Wanstead a bus service. Ideas please

374 - New Route from Waltham Abbey via Brimsdown, Mollison Avenue (Matalan), Angel Road, Tottenham Hale, Seven Sisters, Stoke Newington, then via Route 276 to Hackney Central. Awarded to Go-Ahead London with 25 Streetlite single deckers from Northumberland Park Garage. Frequency every 12 minutes. (would create a link to Waltham Abbey (which is just half a mile away from Waltham Cross, and will give the town access to TfL services, local ones are quite dear. There are quite a few businesses along the A1055 that could do with another bus route apart from the 491 (in parts) and the 192 as it's quite patchy at present. A link to Hackney from Tottenham is sorely needed - and uses a route number not in use anymore ) Hope the idea isn't too extreme I think it could work, especially now passengers just outside the TfL zone at Waltham Abbey can use the contactless cards if they don't have an Oyster card

Route 351 an extension of Route 138 from Coney Hall via the country lanes to Chelsham Common then onto Oxted via Wallingham and Tatsfeild. London Transport did run a Route 400 from Chelsham Common to New Addington via Fickleshole (its a hamlet on the London/Surrey border which has a very nice pub The White Bear in it), but it was Sundays only in 1958 and was cut because of the 1958 bus strikes. This would never happen but it would be interesting in seeing buses going down those lanes.

I'd like to see an orbital route along the South Circular. Something like Catford Stations to Clapham Common LUL via Catford Hill, Perry Vale, Forest Hill Station, Sydenham Kirkdale, Dulwich Common, West Dulwich Station, Tulse Hill Station, Christchurch Road, Clapham Park and Clapham South LUL. There is a distinct lack of routes running from East to West in this part of South London - everything radiates into Central London!
It would be ~10m SDs with a frequency of 15 minutes during the day and 20 in the evening.

Exact same, but for the north, starting at Beckton Sainsburys running to Brent Cross via the north circular A406 and using the on/off slips to allow for interchange.

Route 445 - Clapham Junction to Lewisham via Lavender Hill, Cedars Road, Clapham Common, Clapham North, Stockwell, Brixton Police Station, Loughborough Junction, Camberwell Green, Peckham, Queens Road Station & New Cross. This would take over the 345 east of Brixton and creates an east to west link - something which South London lacks.
Now for a wacky one ;D - Route 435 - Herne Hill to New Addington Tram Stop via Dulwich Road, Brixton Water Lane, Brixton Hill, Christchurch Road, Tulse Hill, West Norwood, Crown Point, Streatham Common, Norbury, Thornton Heath Pond, Thornton Heath, Whitehorse Road, High Street Flyover, South Croydon, Lloyd Park & Addington Village. It does help other routes out but would need a big PVR

My proposals:
Route 420-Hounslow-Southall-Harrow 24 hour service (120 and H32 are niether) Every 10 minutes, all day, every day; 30 minutes night service Create links between Hounslow and Harrow, as well as a third option to Southall from Hounslow. Night service from Southall would give Hounslow an extra night service. Also, would connect destinations in North West London to Hounslow. Would have a reasonably high PVR, operated with double decks
Route 311-Kingston-Hampton-Feltham-Heathrow Central-Heathrow Terminal 4-Heathrow Terminal 5 24 hour service Monday to Saturday every 10-12 minutes; Sundays every 20-30 minutes. Night service every 30 minutes. Designed to releive loadings between Hampton and Kingston of 111/216, provide links to Hampton and Feltham and give a frequent, 24 hour bus shuttle between all of the Heathrow Terminals. Would operate with 10.8m Single deckers or Double decks
Another proposal I would like is to make all Night buses into 24 hour services (e.g. N87)

Another proposal I would like is to make all Night buses into 24 hour services (e.g. N87) The problem with that is people will have to change buses if you turned all night buses into 24 hour routes. In the case of the 87, once you reach Wandsworth, you would then need the 156 to Wimbledon and then the 131 to Kingston. Thats two changes at night with frequencies of 30 minutes or more.

I'll just stitch some missing links together for this I think...
239 from Peckham via Peckham Hill Street, Commercial Way, Southampton Way, Cottage Green OWS, Wells Way, Albany Road, Mandela Way, Dunton Road, Grange Road, Decima Street, Bermondsey Street, Long Lane, Great Dover Street, Borough High Street, London Bridge, King William Street, Queen Victoria Street, New Bridge Street, Fleet Street, Fetter Lane, New Fetter Lane, Holborn, High Holborn and St Giles High Street (return via Bloomsbury Way) to Tottenham Court Road.

I like snoggle's Edmonton - Stratford idea. I'm quite tempted to send it to Wood Green though, something to do with places en route being directly connected to two shopping districts. If the roads permit big buses (for which this route would generate sufficient demand) I'd let this route take over the Western half of the 308.
For relieving pressure off the 192, I suggest rerouting the 349 via Watermead Way, Montague Road and Nightingale Road.

Also the 726 used to serve Feltham but the X26 doesnt, so the X26 doesnt follow that routing. Also Terminal 4 has a near enough already 24 hour service from the 490, last one from Pools in the Park to T5 via T4 is 01:05 and the first one is 03:15. Instead of that new route wouldnt it make sense just to plug that 2 hour 10 gap with 3 journeys.
