Could you add in the fact that the train services are run by Southeastern who are supposed to be an awful operator (I don't use their trains that much so I cant comment). I have used Southfailstern many times, their Class 465s all smell disgusting. The 376s seem to be the cleanest trains. Trains are usually always late as well. Well, the class 376's are sadly very boring and slow and have huge hard uncomfortable seats and are very dark and have an appalling interior layout and lack of seats and massive gaps between the teeny windows and small door windows and... The class 465/466's are almost better in every way, except the lack of a major refurbishment in the class 0/1/2 subclasses and 466s. It's when I travel on other TOC trains (such as Chiltern's 165/168, FGW's 165/166, SWT's 455- all older than SE's 465/466) that I realize what a crap interior I have to put up with on the 465's on a daily basis. Is this 1993??? The /9 subclass are lovely though, I was thrilled to catch one on the Bexleyheath Line yesterday! Should be on this line more often. And you are spot on about the trains usually being late + dirty trains.

Useless: Not fulfilling or not expected to achieve the intended purpose or desired outcome. I'd nominate the 40. Unreasonably slow running and extra long changeovers are irksome, but it's the high chance of the bus being curtailed at very short notice which makes it a bad service. It runs almost exclusively along corridors with parallel high frequency services. Given I usually end up on an alternative route after one is taken out of service mid route, it isn't terribly useful. It is an anomaly in a local network where most of the other services are very good and run well. But because of the way the 40 is operated, I actually let it go and wait for another bus in most circumstances. That said, my travel patterns are somewhat less routine than the average user - its a useful service to tens of thousands of people every day, especially with recent local issues with the East Dulwich to London Bridge rail service. People put up with being ejected mid route and accept it, probably because an alternative is never far behind. Unlike the denizens of the less radial C10, who revolt once they've had enough! The 344 can be the same. I was on a 344 in Vauxhall towards the end of last year and the bus was suddenly curtailed to Vauxhall with no warning, bus fully blinded for Clapham Junction. This tends to happen a lot though, doesn't it? Drivers not bothering to change the blinds when curtailed...

I am guessing the driver was given the curtailment at the last minute, possibly as the bus was approaching Vauxhall.

The T31 goes from Nowhere to Nowhere carrying very few people around (Well thats my experience from using the route), the ENLs used on it look appaling even after refurbishment, before refurb buses were poorly presented. you are correct and verry right about the buses used, they are horrible , to be honest the t33 should just do a double run of courtwood lane Anytime I saw the T31, it had a decent load so its a little unfair to say it's useless - it provides the only link to Forestdale after all. The T33 double running along Courtwood Lane is a better suggestion than extending the 353 as what's in the consultation as the opportunity to link Orpington and Croydon together will be lost. As for the ENL's, they aren't in that bad a condition - not the first time you've exaggerated the condition of a batch of buses either.

For such an unreliable service Forestdale is not too bad. The state of those ENLs has always been noticable in the Addington area, before refurb they looked terrible. A lot of Arrivas Euro 4 Enviro 200s and some Euro 4 Enviro 400s have been in a terrible state as they have been poorly treated. All other routes in Addington apart from the 466 & T31 always have decent looking buses.

Before refurb, of course the ENL's are going to look awful but the ones I saw on the T31 didn't look that bad. Meanwhile, all the 466's T's have been refurbed and look excellent.

Which bit is rubbish because I know he has exaggerated the condition of buses before - I don't suppose you remember the post about TB's Tridents?

All T's except for T64 and T49 were looking really tired by the time they got their refurbs. I always avoided any T's that showed up (unless it was T64, as i have this bus as a model) and wait for a DW to arrive. Now, they are in a much better state outside, but on the inside, the T's need to have new stop bells and door alarms. The stop bells on some T's are worn out and the door alarm on T44 REALLY annoys me Regarding the ENL's i havent been on the T31 batch before but i saw them on the 166. ENL3 was in the worst state despite having a rear ad. Thankfully, theve refurbed it

I agree, the 40 isn't really useless it just shares its journey with several other bus routes, but what it does is connect Aldgate/London Bridge and Camberwell/Dulwich and provide relief for other parallel bus routes. I would extend the 40 to Lower Sydenham or Crystal Palace to give it more length and purpose.

In terms of routeing, I would say 131. 90% of the route is overlapped by 57. Wimbledon --> Tooting Broadway was also overlapped by 219. If I were to modify the 131, I will either:
1. Kingston <--> Mitcham Via 200, and 200 is now going to tooting broadway instead. 219 will convert to DD and serve tooting high street.
2. 152 extends to Kingston (Fairfield) <--> Pollards hill through the original 131 route to colliers wood plus DD conversion. 131 will serve Tooting Broadway and Kingston through Wimbledon chase and Merton park.
Another example is the 209. I would modify it by Either:
1. Extend to Acton Central
2. Extend to South Kensington
3. Extend to Kew Retail Park

How about just rerouting the 131 so that it helps out the 200 along Queens Road and Haydons Road. This also gives the route that bit more a distinction from the parallel 57. Meanwhile Double-deck the 219 (as you already mentioned) to maintain passenger capacity with the 57 between Wimbledon and Tooting Broadway via South Wimbledon.
