Reading recent posts on this thread, what will happen if TFL cannot get funding for EVs? Thats a good point. Rachel Reeves definitely is not open to simply signing off every request for money (rightly so) and other mayors request to the transport secretary may be higher up the list. That said TFL are still managing to convert alot of route and I'd say by next year we must be up to 60% if not more of garages having had the upgrade works and having atleast one electric route. I still think 2032 would be a realistic target as any existing bid in 2025, 2026, 2027 can all be for 5 years and its still we staggered. If they dont get funding they will just say the target was always 2034 and then if it happens to be done earlier then they will take credit for being it overdelivered. It how politics works. I dont think a new target will be set. Delivery over a longer period will likely be more economically efficient. Current buses will be exhausted as much as possible, future new buses will likely have better technology and may be cheaper to build (accounting for inflation), infrastructure will be better too. Understanding of the ability and longevity of current electrics will be better known too.
