They did have a batch of those in BK for the 5 but most of them around 2004 moved on and some X-NNO examples from PD came to replace them Did the 5 get batch of new Tridents Y reg I think? These were some of the first buses with the revised beach ball seating. And to further add on the other part of your comment the first ever bus to sport the current moquette today was X268NNO which was based at NS for the majority of it's London stint before it ventured to other depots. I can't remember off the top of my head which other depots it went to in the south area but I would frequently see that bus on the 86 (when it had it's dual NS allocation back in the 2000s) and the 87.

So the Y-reg buses were actually for the 169, 387 and the 87 when it was at BK until July 2002 when the 369 came back to BK which in turn sent the 87 to NS Interesting I was convinced they were purchased for the 5 and upgrade of the 145 back to double decker.

The 5 originally had the low level height tridents and the 145 was converted to double decker in 2003 using the 03 tridents. This occurred around the spring time. I remembered that period so well.

The only low height buses I think TFL have ordered are some Omnidekkas? Regarding the 145, it would be unimaginable nowadays to see the 145 with single deckers.

The T-KPU tridents were low height tridents. Similar to the picture that was posted earlier in this thread. As for why the 5 was chosen for those buses at first in BK. I've forgotten why it went to the 5 first. Thinking about it that bus has had more changes to it's buses than the rest of the buses that operated from BK back then 😂😂. As for the 145 being a double decker from 2003 onwards I fully welcomed it with open arms. It was a long time coming too. Its true if that bus was to ever return to a single decker it would struggle majorly.

Its true if that bus was to ever return to a single decker it would struggle majorly. The initial allocation of the T-KPU batch was simply down to contract requirements. From early 1998 onwards there were a number of contract awards that specified low-floor DDs, but the first Tridents didn't enter production until a year later. By then there was a backlog of orders, and the priority was to convert the routes that had started their contracts earlier. For Stagecoach that meant the first buses going to the Hackney area routes (48, 55, 56, 277) that had started new contracts in Feb 1998, followed by the August 1998 contracts (5 and 15B/115). Then came the PD contracts that had started in Jan 1999, and so on.
No idea why the 5 went on to receive newer Tridents during the course of that contract. Stagecoach was never one of my specialist subjects!

It was the Y3**NHKs I believe having had a look on Ian's Bus Stop that were bought for the 5 Ian's Bus Stop is very good on garage allocations, but sometimes a bit vague on route allocations. So when he says that the Y-NHKs went to BK for routes x, y and z, this doesn't mean that the batch were necessarily bought specifically for those contracts - just that those buses ended up being used on those routes in practice.

Because Stagecoach wanted buses that would match their provincial spec considering Tridents new to Stagecoach non London ops were low height. After the S & T reg were delivered, TfL started to instruct their own spec meaning that the V reg onwards were to full height spec.
