- The 129 is pretty short, boring and just pointless. There are already a range of different transport links from Greenwich to the O2 and in between. Not this again

541 is pretty short and dull - also pretty sure only route you can do a full circle on without having to get off at end of route (Keir Hardie end)

You can even stay on across Barnet the Spires if you ask nicely!

The 35 is rather boring nowadays with their knackered Enviros, the exact opposite of those on the 37 which are my second-best favourites after the 196 batch.

Perhaps not so pointless to those who don't want to take two buses to complete their journey! I'd beg to differ with it always being empty, else it wouldn't be running. I think reduction of capacity along the corridor it serves was tried at some point in recent yers. Before long there were issues with overcrowding!

It seems to be North London's own '415' in the sense that it's a regularly mentioned route when it comes for withdrawing candidates.

It seems to be North London's own '415' in the sense that it's a regularly mentioned route when it comes for withdrawing candidates. Except, of course, that neither route is useless. The 349 is there as an additional support to three extremely busy services - 149, 259 and 279. If it was numbered 149 we would not be having this debate at all. You can't plan networks on the basis that every single service runs at 100% (or more) capacity for the entire day. It's daft - you need some buses that provide seated and standing capacity alongside buses that are full. You also need services that provide overlaps across key terminal points like Edmonton Green. For the record the 349 has annual patronage of over 5m journeys. TfL have tinkered with various services on the Tottenham - Edmonton - Enfield corridor for years. The 279's frequencies and peak extras have yo-yoed up and down for years and the 349 has been hacked about far too much IMO. We have discussed in other threads how the 349 might be made more effective but given its frequency those changes may well be expensive and therefore unlikely to happen. If TfL were to remove the 349 in its entirety then you would have a lot of very upset people because they would simply not be able to get on the remaining services. The key to changing travel demand on that corridor will be how TfL upgrade the parallel rail service. The station spacings are good enough to allow a shift in demand but you need enhanced frequencies. If frequencies are improved then I expect TfL will review bus frequencies but the key will be fare levels. Off peak the TfL rail PAYG fare is within 5-10p of the bus fare so people on PAYG may shift. Bus pass and Travelcard holders may not because of the zonal structure pushing their costs up.

Its just like the 38 which is my most hated then the 149, londons bus routes in general are much slower than a couple years ago, takes the joy out of travelling on buses for me now i hate it in general and would rather drive or tak the train/tube.

I'm really not convinced I'm afraid, the 415 really is the most useless route ever, just extend the 432 to Elephant & Castle, three routes along Tulse Hill really are not needed. As for the 349, didn't it only come about so the 149 could be converted to bendybus? Just extend the 149 back to Ponders End. The 349 duplicates almost all of the 279 anyway, just add a few peak times extras between Edmonton Green and Seven Sisters if they are really needed but even that is doubtful
