The Urbis Albanys on Norwood Road have begun to be converted to LED's - pretty much all are done between Leigham Vale & Robson Road with just the Norwood High Street one way system to be done. Meanwhile, no more progress has been done in Brixton Town Centre and many of the lights that have yet to be converted to LED are beginning to fail to light up. Will be interesting to see how they will be converted, considering that their lighting is fitted from the top and not from the side. Also wondering if they will do similar to the street lamps around the main Tooting Broadway[1] area, specifically those along Mitcham Road from Tooting Broadway tube to Amen Corner. [1] - bearing in mind that's under a different borough from Brixton

Credit to everyone involved that this thread has now managed to reach 12 pages.... It was my fascination of the old concrete lamp posts that kept me interested throughout into more modern ones. It started when I was a very young kid coming home from school and found another lamp post next to our normal one. The original one used a lightbulb[1] and the new one was the 'red into amber' variant, the latter which shined a lot brighter into my parent's bedroom. I remember planning to stay up all night in their room to see it turn off, wondering if the amber reverted back to red before doing so. Suffice to say my plan wasn't fully conducted as the next thing I remember was waking up in my own room next morning, where Mom or Dad had carried me in. I also remember observing other streets to see if their streetlights were being changed, which was the case in most of that part of Mitcham between Church Road and Western Road. It was only shortly afterwards that I first realised the main and side street lights in Colliers Wood where relatively identical yet in Tooting they were different. As I went into different towns and observed more lamppost that's when I realised the variety that were about in South London alone... which got me that much more interested. Despite my interests I have no clues as to the names of the lamps nor the posts. Even with the buses I didn't know most of their names when I first started on the job... at least not until type training took place where we got booklets and leaflets to help us with our familiarity on each model. [1] - always wanted to find out if it's the same bulbs we use in our domestic homes

Liberty Avenue off Christchurch Road is now one of the latest roads within the borough of Merton done with light refurbishment, it's design formerly being identical to the silver ones that were once plentiful along the high streets within the borough of Croydon. They now have shorter necks. Was sad to see these ones finally tended to as they were one of the few lamps that were to my knowledge the last of its kind within the borough that had its full originality...baring their colours which I believe were green when new back in the 60/70s.
I've also noticed the street lights along the side roads between Kingston Road and Bushey Road are now upgraded, although identical ones on Pincott Road (off Merton High Street nr South Wimbledon tube) still has the majority of their 1960/70s lamps untouched, perhaps one of the last roads within the borough of Merton to still have that style of street lights. Waterfall Road off High Street Colliers Wood still have their original street lights from the late 70s/early 80s... definitely a set that time forgot as the rest of Colliers Wood appears to now be LED with some roads having their street lights changed twice over since the early 80s.
Lansdale Road in Mitcham, off Locks Lane have also finally had theirs upgraded but the first two lamppost on Locks Lane itself still have their original red into Amber bulbs. These two street lights were actually meant to have been upgraded with the rest but I believe they may have run out of the new style bulbs when two other street lights which had been upgraded previously ( for individual reasons) got upgraded again. Those street lights can be viewed from any bus passing the Figgs Marsh roundabout where Locks Lane begins.

Lordship Lane N17 has one new LED lamp post as one of the original got damaged in a storm last year... I think they want residents to pay towards upgrading the rest at some point Out of interest, I hear there is cosmetic works starting on 23rd on White Hart Lane - do you know if this includes the lampposts as there are a number of Philips MA's that date from the 70's/80's along a sizeable section of White Hart Lane between Wolves Lane & Great Cambridge Road. Google Maps shows that Wolves Lane has succumbed to LED's having lost it's Philips MA's whilst I know other roads in the borough have lost their concrete lamposts with Philips MA's on as well.

Haringey are the West Ham United of highway works, and will do as little as possible as the section of Wolves Lane that is within Haringey is not that long, I don't think they will do much to upgrade the lighting unless there's been more crime (hence the brighter lighting)... the rest of Wolves Lane heading north is Enfield as it heads into Palmers Green. The main bit of White Hart Lane they've been concentrating on is by the stadium where they want to re align the road, add some sort of walkway for the train station after moving it a little further south, remove the old estate by Love Lane (3 tower blocks to go), as a result the W3 has been put on a long diversion via Edmonton Angel and Gt Cambridge Rd for the foreseeable future. Not too clued up on lamppost tech, but most of Lordship Lane (A109) between Bruce Castle Park and Wood Green still has sodium lamps, I think

Latimer Road SW19[1] and surrounding streets are the latest observed to have been upgraded to energy lamps, their long necks now as short as the rest of the refurbished examples throughout Merton. Oxford Avenue off Kingston Road (near Wimbledon Chase Station) appears to be the only side street in the area still to have all its original late 70's/early 80's red into amber lamps.
Over these recent months Merton certainly seem to be sweeping up on its efforts, reminiscent of Wandsworth Council back in the late 80s when they practically eradicated just about all their concrete lamps in which seems like only a year. If I remember correctly they started around 1989 and by early 1991 all but isolated examples were sadly extinct.

Lansdale Road in Mitcham, off Locks Lane have also finally had theirs upgraded but the first two lamppost on Locks Lane itself still have their original red into Amber bulbs. The first of those two Locks Lane streetlights is presently not working, which makes me wonder if they'll simply convert it to LED as I imagine they may no longer stock the original red into amber tube lamps. This is assuming the fault is a blown lamp rather than something else that could be rectified without upgrading.

This road is now fully LED equipped. Meanwhile some of the LED lamps along Church Road were not illuminating properly tonight, at least three of them barely shining at all. Unfortunately I keep forgetting to check on Pincott Road (near South Wimbledon tube) to see if the southern half of the street still has its red into amber bulbs, its northern half having been done at least two years ago.

There is also a swan neck concrete lamppost just off Valley Road along a path leading into a small estate, not far from the junction of Streatham Common North side. . Past along Valley Road last night and observed, to my delightful surprise, that it's actually now working. To think that after all this time I thought the power was stripped from it like with the other swan shaped streetlight still standing just off Brixton Hill. If I was that much more of an enthusiast I may have even gone back there another day to video it turning on, not ending the video until it's fully amberd from red. ;D

We have a rolling LED programme across which will us seeing us install LED in a large part of the borough. The main road LED programme has been pretty much completed across Merton and we are now on to our secondary routes. Some of the street light which have received LED were first installed in the 1970s We have pretty much eliminated amber lighting across the borough with very roads remaining

The best example of comparisons is on the 154 and S4 routing along Green Lane where the Merton section of the road has had their lamps replaced/upgraded numerous times over the years whilst the Sutton versions along the road are still the same as from the 1950s/60s.

Over in Hounslow, Heston Road finally lost it's yellow sodium street lights last month. It was probably the largest section of yellow lights remaining in the borough, so it is a slight shame to lose them, but otherwise it is good to see the council finally care about that road. There were several lights not working, including one or two for well over a year (which had my reports ignored ), but somehow they replaced one that was dead for less than a month which I didn't report . At the same time they also replaced the ones in the half of adjacent New Heston Road that they missed a few years ago. Luckily Hounslow usually use LEDs of a good brightness, unlike neighbouring Ealing who used less bright ones virtually everywhere to replace the 2000s bulbs I think the longest remaining section of yellow street lights in Hounslow borough may now be Burlington Lane in Chiswick (by Chiswick Station, along the E3). Although they've left random ones dotted about in a few places where they've put the new posts in a different location to the old ones, e.g. a couple of sections on Bath Road near Hounslow West
