I'd like Hounslow to take down the old posts on the Half Acre and Boston Manor Road quicker than Louis Suarez took down England tonight They've done the other half of Boston Road upto the Ealing Border by the station, but Windmill Rd and the section of Boston Rd leading to the Gt West Rd needs to be done pronto Reminds me a bit of Trinity Road in the Wimbledon area where about three quarters of the road had streetlight refurbishments (shorter neck with new lamps) back in the 1990s whereas the southern end, between the Broadway and Kingston Road, are still in the original form from the 60s/70s. These streetlights are very similar in design to the 1950s ones seen on Brighton Road just south of TC. The lamps shine red into amber but the casing is different. The more famous Trinity Road in Wandsworth is receiving some new lampposts along the dual carriageway section - I quite liked the taller columns along that section as it's quite unique for Wandsworth.

I will add the 219 as one of my future bus trips as I have not been along Trinity road for a while, barring the tooting bec end. I quite like the ones they used to have at Clapham Junction on St. John's Road and St. John's Hill, which for some reason barely lasted 10 years. Those lampposts reminded me of the old ones they used to have along the Wimbledon end of Alexandra Road, one of which still exist (but with an updated lamp) on the bridge where the road crosses over the district line/British rail.

Was on the 250 the other night and noticed that the 1950's lampposts along Green Lane, Norbury now have their replacement energy saver lampposts next to them. Old ones are still presently working for the moment. Nearly five months later and nothing has changed, old ones still working.

Forgot to add that there is a sidestreet concrete lamppost still working at the Bricklayers Arm roundabout. It can be seen better at night when illuminated between the Great Dover Street and Tower Bridge Road exits. These lampposts were abundant along sidestreets off the Walworth Road and Elephant and Castle areas.

The Lambeth borough swan shaped lamppost can also be seen on Google map, it's within a small estate (pedestrian walkway) just off Valley Road in Streatham, not far from the junction of Streatham common north side. This one however doesn't work

There is an identical one to that swan shaped lamppost on Rush Common, on the path into Roupell Park estate, on Brixton Hill, near Holmewood Road - last time I saw it, it was still working. On that same path, there are two other different columns though they aren't concrete columns.

Does that one have some sort of a net over the actual lamp?

Does that one have some sort of a net over the actual lamp? Yeah, the net is still covering it - I think it's only survived because there is 1980's column just along from it and from what I can remember, the swan shaped concrete columns were dotted around Roupell Park up to around the mid 00's - the 1980 column must of been a standalone replacement for a damaged concrete column in the past. Hopefully it survive for even longer lol. I've just found the names of my favourite street lights - the Thorn Alpha 3, 4, 5 & 8 along with the MA60 are my favourites simply because Lambeth was full of these between the 70's & mid 00's. Shame there are no Thorn Alpha 3's, 4's or 5's left in the borough - there are a small number of Thorn Alpha 8's though. Kennington Road has some between Kennington Lane & Kennington Park Road, there is one with the bulb casing on Brixton Hill - it's only survived as it has a CCTV camera attached and there are various side roads along Streatham Hill & Streatham High Road with the very first column on these side roads containing a Thorn Alpha 8 light.

I had to Google what each one looked like as I didn't know their names. Glad I did because I always wanted to describe what the ones outside Kew Gardens looked like, now I know that they are Thorn Alpha 7s. Although they have long since been replaced outside the gardens, some were still about outside Acton town tube station during the noughties when London General took over the N11. Not sure if they are still there nor how the borough of Ealing are progressing with their upgrades. I remember the phone Thorn Alpha 3s very well, one of the first streetlights I would see after stepping off planes at Heathrow, particularly outside terminals 2 and 3. The TA4s were abundant throughout Mitcham and collier's wood, most of them still having the same bodies today but with retrofitted lamps. The TA5s I remember along Hayden's road sw19, their bodies still being there today as well but with retrofit necks as well as lamps. It appears that the Green Lane examples are TA9s, which was what Colliers wood/Mitcham's had on their concrete columns prior to the TA4s.

On that same path, there are two other different columns though they aren't concrete columns. Passed it last night just after 10pm and it's was off, though it could simply be a faulty bulb or timer. I have noticed that with the old lamps in Croydon whenever the 'red into amber' lamp has blown they replace the whole light unit on the post. The ones in Merton however are a bit random with repairs, some having new units where as others simply having replacement old style lamps. I am guessing Merton still have the old designs lamps still in stock. All the lamppost in liberty Avenue SW19 have the original lights, probably the only street in London I can think of with 'all' its streetlights unchanged (barring a paint job) from the early 70s. EDIT: make that one of two streets, the other one being nearby Mount Road which runs between Western Road and Church Road, which used to have a big green roundabout in the middle prior to houses being built on it.

Not sure if this is newsworthy for our lamppost enthusiasts, but I noticed that the old concrete lampposts by Welling Station are currently (right this moment) being knocked down/removed and being replaced with modern thin ones...

Lights along my road have recently been replaced, we did have the old 1950's ones, but now we have the new LED ones. Very good they are too

Streatham Vale now have energy saver lampposts erected next to their existing posts, which at present still work at night. This is the second time I have seen lamp posts change on this road, the first time being back in the 90s when the 1950's concrete posts were replaced.
Not all that far away in SW19 the concrete lampposts in the side roads off High Street Colliers Wood have been replaced, but surprisingly with ordinary modern lamp posts and not the energy saver variants.
