snoggle: When you say 35 busiest routes, do you mean routes as is, or routes as were? Eg, 15 covering the 115, 207 including the 427? And by tram and trolley, do you mean the modern european thinking of road trains, or the more British version of double deckers? Or both!

snoggle: When you say 35 busiest routes, do you mean routes as is, or routes as were? Eg, 15 covering the 115, 207 including the 427? And by tram and trolley, do you mean the modern european thinking of road trains, or the more British version of double deckers? Or both! As is - I did look at the stats to see if the result would be reasonably coherent. Clearly once a substantial network of tracks / overhead were in place you could take a view about service patterns and potentially offer longer through services than are currently viable by bus. As for Trolleys - well I think you would need both. Much as some people dislike bendy buses we can't deny that they do work in terms of rapid boarding and alighting and being able to take big loads. We need to consider that some route corridors will require much more capacity and potentially over fairly short sections as housing density increases. I'm not transfixed on one vehicle type over another - there will be areas where double deck trolleys were perfectly sensible. The final stage could be to restructure some bits of the network with people changing from tram / trolleys to local buses at custom made interchanges. This may well allow more resource to strengthen local networks or to create new orbital links which trams and trolleys wouldn't cover. The aim is to move us to much higher capacity modes with a far lower environmental impact with lower operating costs / higher efficiency while also allowing much more effective local transport.

*Conversion of high-demand radial corridors to trams, with frequent local feeder services linking to trams.
*A comprehensive review of the night bus network, based on two objectives - a) assessing a suitable distance from a night bus service for residential areas, much in the same way as is currently done for day bus routes, and b) reworking of the lowest-demand services to provide more useful links.
*Takeover of all local rail services in London by LOROL, with the infrastructure provided to run a minimum 15-minute service on all lines.
*Conversion of the 507 and 521 back to bendy bus operation.
*Conversion of high-demand single deck services to double deck, or where this is not possible, to 12m single deckers.
*Increased provision of Sunday services on high-demand routes such as the 123, 197, 358 where frequencies are inadequate to meet demand.
*Securing new stand space and garage space adequate to meet increasing demand.
*In-service garage runs on routes where the garage is on the line of route (e.g. 492)
*Introduction of short workings on the busiest sections of routes, including double deck short workings that run short of the physical restrictions on single deck routes (e.g. 214 Moorgate - Parliament Hill Fields double-deck short workings)
*Creation of a comprehensive strategy for the reduction of air pollution, including introduction of congestion charging and "ultra-low emission zones" in the most polluted areas.

- I'll remove Boris Masters off the Streets.
- I'll bring back the Bendy Buses but only for routes 507 / 521.
- I'll convert all single routes to double decks. But I wouldn't convert any single deck route where there are restrictions that prevents double deckers like low bridges and weak bridges.
- I'll withdraw routes 207/427/607 and replace them with a tram service.
- I'll make all tube stations / overground stations wheelchair accessible.
- I'll scrap the tendering system and have all the garages operated as one.

- I'll scrap Crossrail and extend the Ealing Broadway branch of the Central Line to Slough / Heathrow.
- I'll remove Boris Masters off the Streets.
- I'll bring back the Bendy Buses but only for certain routes.
- I'll convert all single routes to double decks.

I hope you would have a big budget!! also what about all the work already done for Crossrail? I know this is fantasy but still...

Oh dear now you've asked! Whether people think things these are "vanity" schemes is for them. Naturally *I* think they're the most brilliant projects ever invented. I would convert the busiest 35 bus routes to trams. I would convert the busiest 36-90 bus routes to trolleybuses. I would use the buses displaced from the above projects to boost capacity on overloaded routes and to introduce many more services in areas where strategic links are missing or where people are not served. I would expand the number of bus stations and interchanges. I would implement a 30 year strategy to increase station capacity on the tube and rail network. I would build 3 new tube lines. I would develop and implement a "next generation" version of London Overground to expand capacity and frequencies. I would implement a programme to add infill stations on the rail network. I would build the Coppermill curve to allow trains to run Chingford to Stratford. I would place all London suburban rail services under TfL control with minimum service levels which were the same every day of the week. I would also embark on a programme of building extra bus depot capacity and to provide for conversion of bus depots for trolleybus and tram operation. the same as him I would also banish the rats from Walthamstow Central station, close Maryland station (what's the point? It's within spitting distance of Stratford!), smarten up Bruce Grove and White Hart Lane stations and area, roll out the new generation of Siemens deep-level tube trains to all the deep level lines, not just the Piccadilly Knock down Lidl Hanwell and rebuild Hanwell Bus Garage for Arriva Ealing North Taser-enforced revenue protection teams on Routemaster operated services Banish the No U-Turn camera from Gliddon Road, W14 which makes Hammersmith & Fulham council thousands each month Widen North End Road in Fulham, and get rid of that silly double-roundabout junction where it crosses Lillie Road New bus route, 374, White Hart Lane to Bethnal Green via Hackney operated by Metroline East (consolation for losing the E10 to Arriva ) New Riverside Shopping Centre in Brentford on the site of the dilapidated W & K building Give planning permission for construction of a new House of Fraser Metro in Tottenham, opposite the new stadium (compulsory purchase of the chicken shops and betting shops, and put proper brands back in the area ) Ultra Ultra Low Emission Zone (no pedestrians who smoke unless they pay a £12 daily surcharge) Like Ken, see how much hare-brained schemes I can bring in within 4 years before my successor does something completely different - like the Lib Dems, I may never get into power ever again

Scrap Crossrail??? I've thought of another few projects mainly for my own personal enjoyment.... Extend the 375 from Passingford Bridge to Epping via Debden and increase the frequency to hourly. Bring back the 174X. Work with Ensignbus and London Bus Company to provide a heritage route along the 15 extended from Tower to Aldgate using various RT's and specials now and again. Bridge crossing between the Blackwall Tunnel and Dartford with provision for BRT/Tramway DLR extension to new Barking Reach/Dagenham/Rainham

Get rid of the stupid 20mph limits on main A roads, which actually make things worse as it causes more tailgating, aggressive driving, hardly anyone follows it anyway unless there is a speed camera or police and causes more overtaking, especially dangerous over taking.
Not introduce any more of those three door two staircase buses, obviously getting rid of tthose already here would come in due time but for the time being they have to stay due to money already spent.
turn camden town into a two way on the part of camden road that is one way and also camden high street into a two way. only the 31, N28/31, 274 and C2 would use bayham street so it is easier to cut across camden high street to delancy street rather than wait to turn right off camden high street. As for the 31, N28/31 thats so Bayham Street can be used as current stand and then return via Camden High Street as they do.
Infact I would remove alot of one way streets
Cylists some sort of special cycle lane as I find majority of them a danger to other road users and pedestrians. Bicycles would have to have registration plates and have to pay tax to use the road? can I do that as mayor?
Get rid of Arrivas dreadful VLWs on the 253/4, 168. Fine companies for using euro 2 buses in and around west end, I think its a joke that companies like arriva have DLAs on the 159, regardless of reasoning. They have more than enough newer buses to keep 'presentable' vehicles on west end routes whilst older stock can go on suburban routes/
Increase frequency on alot of very low frequency routes, try and create new routes and new links both where possible. Longer buses on single decker routes that can take them, longer midi buses where possible also instead of 8.9-9.6m buses where a 10.2m can work well i.e 393 for example.

I suppose you use convertible double deckers for routes with low bridges or do you make all low bridges like tower bridge, so they raise when a DD is coming, lol?? which would be a massive inconvenience.
