My proposals around Barnet: 84: Withdrawn between Potters Bar Bus Garage and New Barnet. However, buses will be retimed to be in correlation with the 234 in order to facilitate any long distance journeys from Barnet to St Albans (? PVR) 234: Withdrawn between Muswell Hill & Highgate Wood but diverted to Wood Green Station from Muswell Hill via Alexandra Palace. Extended from The Spires to Potters Bar Station via the 84 to Darkes Lane and directly via Darkes Lane to Potters Bar Station. Frequency dropped to every 15 minutes however. Would establish links between Muswell Hill, Friern Barnet, Coppetts, Whetstone with Potters Bar & Hadley Green. Would be more popular than the current 84, the 234 would be very direct up to Potters Bar, the kind of journey you'd do in a car and New Barnet and Potters Bar are arguably linked by train. However, Hadley Green would lose their direct link to New Barnet. However this could be done by taking a 234/399 into Barnet and a bus down to New Barnet. In terms of Wood Green links, the 144 currently does the link fair enough but the link is popular and I'd imagine links from Friern Barnet/Coppetts to Wood Green for the Shopping City and tube station would be popular as well as there finally being an Alexandra Palace to Muswell Hill link. (+1 PVR) 251: Extended down to Palmers Green, Lodge Drive as mentioned before in the thread (+2 TVR)
288: Extended from Queensbury Morrisons to Harrow via the 79 to Kingsbury and down Preston Hill, Draycott Avenue & Woodcock Hill. Would introduce a service along Draycott Avenue and Woodcock Hill.
299: Withdrawn between Southgate and Cockfosters. Extended from Muswell Hill to Royal Free Hospital via the previously proposed 268 extension through East Finchley, Highgate Village, Kenwood House, Hampstead & Hampstead High Street with the 268 kept as is. Would also establish better west links to Southgate from that neck of North London and for people wishing to access Oakwood or Cockfosters the Picadilly is available from Bounds Green and those needing to access the proposed 384 can change in Southgate (+7 TVR if upped to every 12 minutes or +3 TVR if kept at every 15 minutes)
303: Increased to every 12 minutes due to demand in the evening.
340: Extended from Edgware to New Barnet Station via Route 292 to Stirling Corner & 107 to New Barnet. New links from Barnet to Stanmore Broadway, Wealdstone, Harrow Weald, Harrow and Canons Park. (+8 TVR). Would have a cycle time of 174 minutes (Harrow - Barnet and Barnet - Harrow) and with stand time it would be 192 minutes in total.
384: Withdrawn between Barnet Quinta Drive and Edgware and revised on it's old routing between Cockfosters and Barnet Quinta Drive with perhaps amendements to some roads if underused?. Extended from Cockfosters via old route 299 to Southgate establishing a Southgate to New Barnet/East Barnet/High Barnet/Barnet Hospital link (though rather indirect) and would allow residents to continue as they were pre changes. Frequency reinstated back to every 15 minutes. (-1 PVR) Would be expensive, but just a little review of options that could be considered and if my 263 idea was thrown in here with the diversion to Dalston, it could probably remain cost neutral in the 263s respect as the route is overtimed and could do with a reduction in running time. Good set of ideas but is there sufficient stand space in Southgate for the 299 and 384? No

Good set of ideas but is there sufficient stand space in Southgate for the 299 and 384? No Probably why it's in the fantasy thread.

Good set of ideas but is there sufficient stand space in Southgate for the 299 and 384? No The other idea could be extended the proposed 384 down to Southgate Green? Would make up a running time of ~70 minutes in each direction in the peaks.

Probably why it's in the fantasy thread. It's in the fantasy thread because of the 234 idea up to Potters Bar...I cannot see TFL providing a service up to Potters Bar.
I think stand space could be possible in Southgate Green? Would create an overlap with the 299.

Probably why it's in the fantasy thread. I thought this was the Withdrawn/new bus routes ideas thread, why I do not know.

Not local, so take this with a pinch of salt, but I think it’s a shame that the 84 isn’t a TfL service. If you can get TfL services out to Redhill and Dorking, then St. Albans isn’t to me beyond the realms of possibility, though I fully appreciate that Surrey are rather more benevolent towards public transport as compared to Hertfordshire.

It's an accident of history. In April 1982 the route was reassigned to London Country as Hertfordshire County Council wanted to reduce the amount of subsidy it paid towards the route (London Country's operating costs had been driven down relentlessly under National Bus Company ownership). In June 1986 the route was reassigned to London Buses but still as a Hertfordshire County Council contract, not a London Transport one. It was rerouted via Potters Bar at this time although peak journeys direct via St Albans Road were retained. At some point the route was taken on as a commercial operation.

Would a 57 to Brixton with the 319 diverted to Clapham Park be unreasonable?
Would create a direct Brixton to Wimbledon/Colliers Wood/Raynes Park/Kingston link and the 319 would be able to handle the short extension to Clapham Park.
If congestion was reduced throughout could this be possible - perhaps a direct routing around Kingston would reduce running time and maybe a bus lane up the A24?
Would also keep capacity rolling if the 59/133/159 got reduced up the Brixton Hill.

The 57 would need bus priority along its route to achieve this especially with congestion having increased in Brixton since LTN’s have been adopted but hopefully long term, it does reach there. The 319 would indeed be fine to run around to Clapham Park

Not really a fantasy imo, this is fairly realistic. I’d call it X25 for historical reasons, and for it to be a true X route, I’d do away with a number of your stopping points : Bromley North, Bromley South, one Beckenham stop, the two Elmers End stops, Addiscombe tram stop and East and West Croydon would be plenty enough stop wise.

While we are on the topic of express routes, I would like to propose an X123 to complement and run alongside the existing 123 (similar to 140 & X140)
X123- Barking to Archway. Barking to Ilford via Ilford Lane, follow 123 lor to Turnpike Lane and follow 41 lor to Archway.
Stops are up for debate. The 123 picks up decent loads almost everywhere so I wouldn't want to slow the route with too many stops. I think the following:
Barking Station Ilford Station Gants Hill Station/Cranbrook Road Charlie Brown's Roundabout High Road South Woodford Waltham Forest College Hoe Street/The Bell Blackhorse Road Station Tottenham Hale Station Bruce Grove Station Turnpike Lane Station Hornsey Station Crouch End Broadway Archway Station

I was really excited by the W15/W17 proposals and I was so disappointed that TFL didn't bother to go through with it. Although I hope they change their mind, I was concerned that the W17 was expected to run from Hackney every 15 minutes (that would be a rammed route). I thought that something could be done:
Extend 394 from Homerton to Leytonstone, (use 339 stand). 339 extend to Leytonstone Tesco (new stand needed) or Leytonstone Bus Station. Run W15/W17 as per proposal.
Or extend 394 to Whipps Cross. However that's highly unlikely given that the route would suffer with delays across the route.

This is the sort of service you might get in a deregulated environment, possibly going further than Bromley, but there is no way that TfL would sanction an express bus service that runs in direct competition with Tramlink.
