Who else finds it weird when Hamilton actually gets third place? Usually if he's having a bad race he'll take 4th or DNF but rarely 3rd in general. Anyways, happy for Kimi, nice gift for a farewell.

Can’t believe this thread hasn’t had more traction given the exciting season we’re having but I’ve revived it for a much sadder reason. Sir Frank Williams has passed away today at the age of 79 after being admitted to hospital on Friday. He had ceded control of his eponymous F1 team a few years ago but will forever remain linked to the team. A tetraplegic after a car accident in 1986, he wasn’t expected to live long after the accident but went on to oversee a number of championship wins and Grand Prix wins for his team. Indeed, plenty of my favourite F1 memories revolve around his team, including championships for Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill and a famous win for Pastor Maldonado in 2012
An absolute legend of motorsport, he will be much missed. I hope there is a suitable memorial to him at next weeks Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Rest in peace Sir Frank Williams

As for Formula 1 in general, my interest waned a bit after the late Murray Walker hung up his microphone, it just wasn't the same without his high octane commentary.

Good race, but very controversial decisions by race control…

Talk about moving goalposts. Dubious decision right here.

First of all, for what it’s due, congratulations to Verstappen for the championship
This however is a tainted one frankly. FIA bent over backwards to give them this race and were too lenient on max’s antics throughout the season (he might be a good racer but his overtakes are borderline dodgy frankly). The Belgian Grand Prix shouldn’t have happened, his entire defence in the past few races was borderline crashing territory. You can’t help but feel that FIA (Masi) were almost orchestrating things (last race was the safety car then red flag; this time it was “lapped cars can’t overtake” “then they can” but actually they didn’t unlap themselves, max just overtook them behind the safety car. The rules were being made up on the go
F1 / FIA have taken a big hit in terms of credibility. I am almost tempted not to watch from next year onwards
SLH was hard done here in my view, the championship was his

I didn't actually watch yesterday's nonsense live, I've rather lost interest in F1, but I've seen replays of it all. To be honest I wasn't greatly bothered about who won.
Anyway UEFA managed to upstage that today with an even bigger fiasco over the Champions League draw but that's a subject for another thread.

What mattered to me was kimi retiring. F1 will miss him … my favourite driver in recent times. While it was clear he wasn’t in full flow this year, I remember the good ol’ days when kimi was in his prime. The early 2000s were a treat to watch and who can forget 2007! He managed to win when he got semi competitive cars in the 2010s as well although he was probably beyond his prime by that time
He was also very fair in overtaking. Unlike the recently crowned world champion with dodgy moves kimi’s moves were like the lores of yesteryears, almost always fair with enough space left for the other racer
A true champion indeed. F1 will miss him
