I don’t think the 185 is dropping to every x10 is it? It’s only having a PVR cut from 25 to 23, so I would have thought that would be from x8 currently to x8-9. A cut to every x10 would lose a lot more than 2 vehicles I think I thought I read somewhere that it was being reduced to x10 minutes? I might be wrong though. 185 is dropping to every 8-9 minutes.

September 30th is certainly going to be an interesting day for London bus scene. So many changes come into effect on that date. Effectively the second major date of changes after April 29th Central London Bus Changes. What route changes/operator changes are people on here going to focus on? I'm going to try out the route 1 extension to Hampstead Heath. Route 1 is going to look very odd for a while in Euston, Camden Town, Belsize Park and on South End Green, but I am sure it will start to feel familiar given time. The 168 isn't that old, it only started in October 1986. Prior to its introduction the 68 ran as far as Chalk Farm Station but there was no service on to Hampstead Heath.

Does that not also depend upon the new timetable?
Extended running times now seem to be the norm. Some routes can be completed more quickly by a snail with a zimmer-frame. If the 185 is to be given more time on what is already quite a time-consuming route then a cut of 2PVR and a cut to every x10 go hand in hand. As TfL themselves say it is supported by other routes along virtually the entire LOR. Whilst not offering exactly the same journey options these do offer alternatives for many passengers.
Lewisham - Victoria could once be done in around 20 - 30 minutes off-peak on the 36 via NX. The equivalent journey now (436 - 36; trip time only not allowing for the change of vehicle) requires 60 - 65 minutes. The 185 follows a longer LOR but currently requires almost 90 minutes at times and 73 off-peak. That is the extent to which London traffic conditions have slowed the service in the past 40 - 50 years.

Are things getting a bit crowded! Shows the effects when there's a massive chunk of East London with just one night route, and no night tube. They really should look at bringing in more support in the area, even if it means sending the N550 further into East London, potentially following the N15 into Barking and then the 287 to Dagenham at least. Could separating the 238’s night service into say, N238, to follow the 62 through Upney, and the 287 to Beam Park or Rainham?

It would probably be better to send the N238 via the 62 to Becontree, then via the 145 to Dagenham Asda.

It would probably be better to send the N238 via the 62 to Becontree, then via the 145 to Dagenham Asda. That’s not a bad idea. The 238 already provides a useful link between Stratford and Barking, so extending a night service parallel to the District Line can work. Though it begs the question if the service would still be viable if the District Line eventually joins the Night Tube. I’m sure there are merits to extending the 238’s night service to serve more of East London, be it parallel to either the District Line or the Rainham c2c branch.

Any thoughts on the next batch of frequency reductions: 185, 450, P12 Has demand fallen? Would capacity be sufficient? 450 will for sure suffer in busier periods

Would capacity be sufficient? 450 will for sure suffer in busier periods Indeed it will, at School times two buses should run together. From when I have seen the Route learning bus out this week on Monday I saw SEe245 and the driver looked bored sitting in traffic as there are Temporary ATS lights at Thornton Heath Station again… C have not seen nothing yet wait until December… I was speaking to a 264 driver on Tuesday they said “We need to start keeping our routes and a lot of drivers are not doing the 450 and we have too many routes now”. Seems to be a resistance against doing the 450 at C already…

Seems to be a resistance against doing the 450 at C already… Interesting insight there. What’s happening in December? Nothing the route is just a nightmare for traffic and heavy loads because of Christmas shoppers. Last year I cannot remember when but there was 4 sets of temporary ATS lights on the Route… This week there are 2 the same locations Northwood Road & Brigstock Road where they are digging up the SAME places again! … the annoying thing about Brigstock Road is there was temporary lights at this same location 4 weeks ago! Next month I would not be surprised if Northwood Road is closed for more emergency roadworks with buses diverted via the 468 to Thornton Heath…! I will never forget when two sets of Temporary ATS lights were on Brigstock Road last year…. no stopping from Thornton Heath Clock Tower until Bensham Lane!!! 2 Consecutive stops closed disgusting! In general when Temporary ATS goes on Westwood Hill like it does like 3-4 times a year they’ll be turning every bus to Sydenham… Last Tuesday I was curtailed to Sydenham & Thornton Heath, High Street… the traffic was diabolical.
